I have no medical knowledge sorry,so can't offer any sound advice, but I know zinc boosts your own immune system,so maybe you could ask the GP if your son could take something like this supplement. There must be other herbal things he may benefit from too,but you would need to seek advice on what and dosage etc.

Hope someone else with the right info.comes along soon!

Mandy so sorry to hear of your sons' illness. It must be terrible for both of you. Did your doctor tell you to expect this reaction to the medication? Could it not be an allergic reaction?
I would contact the doctor and ask.

Poor little lad. Best wishes to you all. Practical suggestion - get ice poles in for him to suck as the ice numbs sore bits and gives fluids. :)

Thanks guys:)
we went to hospital today,Arron had been taken off the epileptic drugs, they think this is whats causing his throat problems, they took blood he was so brave and have done another throat swob, will get results as soon as the consultant gets them,he will have to go and see him again in 1 week, and he then will have to start a different epileptic drug, fingers crossed this will sort itself out,
once again thanks you all for your support
and i will keep you updated

Hi Mandy

There are many different anti-epiliptic drugs around.  I had more or less blocked them from my mind till I read your post but my daughter was, if I remember correctly, on Carbamazepine tablets, Rivotril and something exceedingly sticky (honey had nothing on this stuff) tha I can't remember the name of.  Some of them were also to help her ridgidity but the combination worked well for her epilipsy even though the Rivotril was way below any theraputic level she got worse as soon as I stopped it.

Good luck with finding the right combination

How awful for you, I'm no medic but my Gran was very ill with no cures and she went for herbalist/alternative medicine and the difference in her was amazing.  Perhaps try it?  I wish your family well whatever.

Just to let you know I'm thinking of you. My grandson has epilepsy (the doctors think) so I know you'll be worried until they get things sorted.

As I've mentioned before, my daughter has had epilepsy for 34 years....we've had good times and bad times, as with any chronic on-going condition, but the good news is there are many more effective drugs and treatment options nowadays.
We've just bought a new book "Epilepsy, A guide for Parents, Families and Sufferers" by Dr Donald Weaver, published by Telegraph books. It's £9.99 + postage, and the phone number is 0870 800 0111. It's a good practical guide with lots of interesting case studies. Please E-mail me if I can be of any help.
Cathy.
