I wonder if any of you may be able to throw light onto this for me.  I have a chocolate labrador 8 months old, Mylo.  He has ongoing eye problems.  I took him to the vets a couple of weeks ago with extremely red eyes, nearly closing and occasionally rolling to the back of his head.  One eye was worse than the other.
The vet said that he had something at the back of his eye (piece of vegtable?) Which she opertated to get it out.  He was put on a course of antibiotics, steriods and some anti inflamatory tablets.  He went back twice for checkups, and they have got a little better.  The vet suggested he might have an allergy like hayfeverf and that we would have to see how he goes.  He has finished all his medication, however they still look pretty red to me and he constinately has green puss in the corners of his eyes. As you can imagine I am a little worried for him, any suggestions? My vet also tells me Chocolate Labradors have one problem after the next! Thanks.

Hi Guest

Sorry to hear about Mylo's problems.  You can always ask for a referral to a veterinary opthalmologist if you are not happy with the way his eyes are healing up.

It could be something like dry eye although I am not aware that this causes green discharge and some dogs do suffer from a type of hay-fever.  I would be inclined to go back to your vet and ask for a referal if you are not satisfied

Get a second opinion.  After all you are paying for advice so get someone else to have a look at him.

Where do you live? If we know that we can direct you to a veterinary eye specialist near you.

Hi - My friend has a choccy lab (8 months) He has constant conjunctivitis and now the vet say's he has entropion (sp?) which means his eyelids are turning inwards.  He also has a retained testicle.  I feel that these are a very popular breed at the moment and I wonder how much care is going into their breeding???

Very many puppy producers (I shan't dignify them with the title 'breeders') are breeding purely for colour - health can get stuffed.

Could not agree more JG. Chocolate Labradors are suffering more than Just about any other group og dogs at the hands of fools with £ signs in their eyes

Best wishes, John
