Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Which Dog Paper ?
- By ClaireyS Date 20.05.04 08:19 UTC
I intend to show my Setter pup when he is old enough, I know I have to get either Dog World or Our Dogs to get show schedules etc but which one should I get?? is one better than the other? will they both advertise the same shows? how far ahead do they start advertising shows? he wont be six months until September so I think his first show would be a champ show in Wales.

I have a list of websites for shows thank you :).  I was advised to buy the papers though so I could read the write ups and get a general "feel" for it all as I havent shown for over 10 years and that was a totally different breed :)

Either will do depends on which you prefer, why not buy both for about 4 to 6 weeks and then just the one you prefer after that.

Thats a plan Jackie :)

Both papers do a 12 week trial period
1 is 15 pound the other is 20 pound so you could try them
out and see which you prefer for this price it is also delivered to your door and normally on
a Thursday and they hit the shelves on a Friday so you get a sneek preview :-)
If you decide to order via your papershop you will normally need to pre order them as
they arent normal shelf papers.

Excellent, where can I find out about this trial period (or do I have to buy the papers first ;) )  I know I can get them from WH smiths but I never have time to go into town these days  so I was going to order them from my local shop.

If you look on their websites
www.dogsworld.co.uk
and
www.ourdogs.co.uk
Im sure there is a page for subs.
If not give them a ring the number will be o the inside cover of the papers and ask
I do mine at the shows.

Hi Claire

We have an online subscription which I find really useful, it saves you trawling through all the show results in the paper week after week. It is also really good for open shows and tells you of up and coming shows and closing dates.

What did you decide to call your boy in the end? Is he behaving or being a monster lol

I used to get Our Dogs, then changed to Dog World and now I always get both. Not every report appears in both papers, so will be worth it when you start showing and want to see your critiques!

Hi Alli

How do you go about getting an online subscription?

I called him Fagan in the end (little fiery one) but of course everyone thinks ive named him after the Oliver Twist character who is really evil (I didnt even realise there was a Fagan in Oliver Twist  )  He is a fantastic pup though he loves playing with the cats and polishes the floor quite nicely whilst dragging them round by their collars ;) we got him a paddling pool because he suffers from the heat and he has just been bouncing about in that and is now soaking wet unstuffing a kong :) I love him to bits :D :D

Hi Claire

If yu go to www.ourdogs.co.uk you should find a link iif you scroll down the page enough, the only thing is that you have to subscribe for at least 6 months. Although if I remeber correctly you can get a trial before you spend your money lol. Show results and breed notes are updated Wed/Thur. I much prefer this to the paper as I can go directly to what I'm looking for.

Fagan is a brilliant name for an Irish, it just smacks of cheek doesn't it? My Irish girls are called Keevy and Brianna (17 weeks) and my Gordie girl is called Maddie. I was really hoping for a dog puppy in my first litter but Brianna was the only one who appeared and I just couldn't sell her. Never mind maybe if I decide to breed again I'll get my boy.

When your boy is out we'll probably bump into each other at some show or another.

Bye for now

Alli
