I had a phone call today from a gentleman with a 2.5 year old male lab whose was told by the vet' have you thought of using him at stud'.
The vet gave this man my number as I have labs!!!!!!!!!! NO GOLDEN RETRIEVERS.
The gentleman didnt know the difference between a lab and a golden and wanted to pursue the idea the vets has put into his head.
The owner has a very young family kids 4 and 8 and a baby on the way.
He asked me how he went about it....After telling him about the expense of hip and eye testing and that they needed to both be good scores and clear eyes I told him about all the other responsibilities of owning a stud dog ect and how it MAY change the dogs temprement he asked'why didnt the vet tell me all about it!'
And he didnt realise how involved owning a stud dog can be.
How can a vet try and put such ideas into this gentlemans head without at least discussing the health testing.
I told him if he was THAT keen to use him then it might be a good idea to contact the dogs breeder.
Is it just me that encounters such problems with vets???????

Yes the vet thought that I would be the best person to speak to!!!!!!
Is it possible he approached your vet and the vet thought you were a good person to put him off?
Christine
I can't believe the vet gave your number without permission - I would expect to be contacted and either given the other guys' phone number or asked if he could give it out! YIKES! I'd be having words.
