working class please, when you go to a show and they have a class on for dogs that work, what type of class is that, is it just for the likes of gundogs that work in the field , or is there a class for working trial dogs or dogs that have excelled in obedience, or have i just thought i have heard about a class like this and got it all wrong ?

Sometimes there are special working classes for the gundogs where dogs must have been placed in a Field Trial or Working Test etc.

In breed clubshows there are often special working classes for dogs which have won or been placed in obedience, agility or working trials.

There are only 4 breeds that have working trial classes open to them at Crufts, Dobes, Rotts, BCs and GSDs which is rather amusing when you see how many entries there are in the Rott/Dobe section and that the most popular breed in Working Trials at the mo happens to be a labrador :D

Hi Hippychic, AV Working refers to breeds in the working group. Gundog breeds will go into AV Gundog. As tohme says, sometimes breed club shows will schedule classes for gundogs that work, or have a field qualification. Crufts has a field trial class for each sex of each breed in the gundog group.

thanks tohme that is the classes i was enquiring about, i knew i had heard of them somewhere, so if i contact the kc they would be able to give me the details hopefully in plain speak, the reason i ask is i am dabbling in working trials with my rottie, and was wondering to what stage he would have to be before he could enter the  class, but i was not sure if i had heard correctly about these classes , so i am now going to contact kc and see if they can enlighten me more.

To enter the Working Trials class at Crufts your dog must be qualified UDex or above.  Therefore you will need a UD Open and possibly, if they change the rules by this July a CDex

Hope that helps

There have been no Dobes or Rotts entered in any Working Trials class at Crufts for the past 5 years!
