Hi all you hardened show people, can you tell me how you get started at showing?  I would love to give it a go but don't know how to go about getting started.  I hope you don't think I am ridiculous at not knowing but any advice would be very gratefully received.  Jules

find a local ringcraft who can show you how to stand your dog when in the ring , get your dog used to being handled for when the judge will go over your dog, get him used to showing his teeth etc. You will get lots of advice from the more experienced people who go along and can pick up schedules for shows - plus its a good form of socialisation for your dog too.
Your dog will need to be KC registered and above six months of age to compete in Open/Limit or Champshows or if not registered you can go along to Exemption or Comapanion Shows. When you feel confident enough , enter and  and thats it really- simple!! :D
Good luck

We were at a local companion show recently, and when it was time for the Novelty classes, the woman doing the entries took her b/c puppy in some of them - didn't care that she was only 3 months old - nobody said anything, and she won some rosettes.  It's not the first time I've seen this at companion shows - people do seem to break the age rule.
