At Birmingham champ show last weekend, it seemed that if you were placed you had to pay to collect your rossette.  Is this normal for a champ show?   It's not as if we don't pay enough to enter.

I have heard this before actually - someone mentioned about it at another show and I must admit I was surprised . Champ shows do charge a lot to enter and they are usually well attended too so its not as if they cant be making "some" profit.
If anyone had a right to charge I would have thought it was the smaller less well attended shows who barely break even

You don't normally get rosettes at Champ shows unless you win a CC or a RCC and some Best Puppy, apart from that there are no class rosettes but they are given in the group and BIS challenges. The schedule should tell you what is on offer and if there is a charge or a qualification such as membership required. You have always been able to buy a rosette for your dog to match the place card you have won if you so wish or I supose any sort you like.

There are always rosettes at our breed Champ shows for the five placings in each class-interesting point you made Jackie as  I didnt know that not all issue them

Sorry talking general Champ Shows not breed ones that do offer rosettes. Crufts offer one for the first place and I think I have know it at one other general championship show

I've got some very nice pictures of rosettes on the prize cards my dogs have won at Ch shows

On the other hand obedience shows usually have rosettes down to at least 6th place at all levels

Do you mean for class placings at general Championship Shows, MM, if so your group must be different to mine (hounds) because below 1st place in the last 10 years I have never receved a rosette at any show I can think of.

No Jackie not rosettes but the photographs on the cards of rosettes that Ped Chum sponsor £20 is a lot to pay for a picture ;)

Sorry MM, very slow today, busy printing out 'pick up the poo' type posters for our show on Sunday along with the ring order and layout maps, mind is only just coping ;)

Just improved things no end, trying to recover a cushion from the puppy in the yard, put foot down hole (puppy again) and fell flat on my face just managing to land on the concrete apron. Split lip, front tooth frightened to death, hit the knee again and worse than anything k*ackered my glasses. :(

Rosettes are given out to third place at Crufts Jackie....not just the first prize winners.  Though it would be nice if it was the same at all the championship shows. 

Have they always done that, can't recall, though it was only firsts.

They have done it for the last 3 or 4 years to my knowledge.  Before that, yes I agree it was only firsts.

Ah! have't been able to face it for the last few years, that must be why I only remember the firsts.

I don't think they used to, as my bitches sister that I handled for my friend won 2 first at Crufts as a Junior (they are 7 this year) and only she got a Rosette, nothing for my 2nd or third place, so I think this is fairly new.

From the time I first showed at Champ shows in 189 ther have been no rosetes for places in classes.

Crufts also gives rossettes for best dog/bitch and reserve best dog/bitch

Basically Lel it is the Rosette makers who have seized on a business oportunity.  As the big shows don't award Rosettes, the people who really like to have them can go and purchase one from the Company who have a stall at the show, and they are made up with tails giving that shows details.

I used to get one for every time one of mine won a class at a Championship show, until I had Jozi winning rather a lot of them, and found it too expensive, so stopped doing it for her.

At most Ch shows now, there is only a rosette for BOB - you dont even get a freebie for a CC :(

I suppose I'd not really noticed before that only cards were given out.   Why is it then, that open shows usually always give out rossettes - these being the shows whose numbers are dwindling and have limited funds?

Hi quite often the rossettes at open shows are sponsered by a supporter of the breeds concerned.There is also quite often a place on your entry form for you to contribute if you so wish.Gillian

I suppose the reason that Championship shows can aford to be stingy is that they ahve a captive market, these are the only shows where your dog can compete against the best of it's breed and there is a hope that it can beat them often enough to gain it's titlw and a name for itself as a quality dog.

I was lucky enough to win the Hound Group Brace at Bir5mingham national, and wondered why I didn't get a card, as they gave just a Rosete.  Imagine my surprise when i got a lare card in their traditional design with an inset of my girls on it!!!
