Hello

Can you show a bitch that maybe in pup?
there is a show that i might like to enter, but we wont find out for another two weeks if she is in pup, the show is on June 12th, if she is in pup then she would be due july 3rd, so not sure if she would even be showing (belly) by then or not,

Just asking advice here, please don't shout at me :D

Yes you can. I haven't done it myself, but as lots of bitches don't show any signs of pregnancy till well on, so she wouldn't be penalised. You know your bitch best, whether the stress would affect her. I would enter, then decide on the day whether or not to go.

Would not wish to show a bitch that had been mated at all, but there is no reason why you can't show her until she is unwilling to show, you will have to risk she may pick up an infection, kennel cough etc.

thanx both of you,i did not think about the infection side, thats a really good point!! I think i will leave it until she is either definitly NOT in pup, or she is fit again after the pups!!

Many thanx again.

I have actually never shown her in a proper show, we have been to ringcraft and didn't start that until she was 13 months old!  we are really late starting out in the show world!!, i just really want to start and i think i am just being impatient, it was just a breed club open show that i was thinking of entering, nothing special.

Hi Emma

If the entry isn't too expensive, why don't you just enter anyway?  That way, if you have a disappointment and she's not in whelp, you still have a nice breed club open show to look forward to soon after.  And if she is, well, just don't go to the show :)

the entry is only £4 and its only just over an hour away, i suppose it wouldn't hurt to enter :)

I have til wednesday to post, so i will consider the options,

Thanx

Yes you can.  Our Betty was Best of Breed at Bath Champ Show 5 weeks in whelp and looked wonderful!  But there are risks to consider, as there are if you show another dog with a bitch in whelp at home.  I believe that I cover my dogs against infection and if they are of the disposition to enjoy showing and don't find it stressful, then it's a choice to be made.

what breed are you Val and will you be there this time? i am going along to watch, and it will be the first proper show i have been to, i can't wait. I would love to know who else is going and what breeds you are so i can look out for fellow champdoggers!!!

I'm Rough Collies Emma.  It's one of my local shows now but I have a bitch due to whelp in 8 days (she won't go that long!) but she's too far gone to show!!! :D  There isn't a beached whale class!  Betty was Amelia's Great Grandmother!
(Already have 8 bitches and 5 dogs booked before anyone thinks that I'm advertising!!)
Enjoy your day Emma.
