Hi,

Tonight when out with my bitch GSP, she turned on a dalmation bitch which I've never experienced before.  There was also a dalmation puppy there too and a golden lab dog.  Although it didn't come to anything and the owner of the dalmation wasn't too worried about it, I hate confrontations like this and wonder if some dogs send out body signals which can make set to's like this happen, or maybe the fact that the dalmation was the same age as mine and her owner said that her dog had tried to mount mine.  So is this reaction quite normal or should I be worried that it might happen again.

Any help would be welcome thanks.

Could have been that one or other of the bitches is about to come on heat, but it could be something else, only those who are there have any chance of knowing why.

I know when a dog tried to mount my girl, she warned him off each time, but he was rather insistent (even though she was nowhere near her season).  How old is your girl?

I had a Westie turn on my SBT once, and I noticed before it happened the Westie stood stock still, looking at Benny out of the corner of his eye, before turning round really quickly and lunging at her.  Also, from my hours watching Animal Planet (who says being a student is an excuse for being lazy?) I've noticed the same thing happening - one dog going absolutely still, hackles raised, tail stiff in the air before finally snapping.  Dogs generally do give signals, but younger dogs or very excitable ones can miss them, which makes it up to the owner I guess!

Hi

I have a friend, who have a dog called Freja. Freja hates other bitches! It happened when she was 2 years old - she is 4 now. Just out of the blue. Its "only" adult bitches and especially if they won't submit to her!

Bitches will fight till death if first started, but you should be able to see the signs - growling and standing still as someone else mentioned!

Unfortunateve the opposite problem at the minute :-(  Kassie (2yr old GSD) was attacked out of the blue by a Goldie, they had a nast fight with Kassie on the lead, the Goldie off but now anything that comes within about 10 feet of her- she's up on her toes, barking, ready incase they try to have another go :-(  It's awful- I've spent the last two years training and teaching this bitch to be a nice, well mannered, well balanced bitch for some prat to come along with his dog and ruin it :-(  If his dog is usually like that (which with how nasty it ran at her- I suspect it is) it should be on a lead, secondly if it is for some stange reason a total one off, then the fella didn't have to try and kick Kassie to get her off his dog- bear in mind his dog also had a hold on  :-(
