You have to have a really good dog who does well in the ring and (I think) qualifies for crufts for life when the JW is gained :)

Hi Neil, as Jackie has pointed you in the direction of the KC the form gives you all the requirments.  But to put the JW scheme in a nutshell, your dog, between the ages of 6 & 18 months, has to collect 25 points from class wins where 3 of the breed are present,at a mix of Open & Ch shows. Open Show wins score 1 point and championship show wins score 3 points.  there are loads of bits and pieces to add to this, which you will pick up from the forms, but this is the basics of the scheme.
bye
Gwen

edited to add:

This is one of the scheme which the KC seem to re-hash regularly, so worth keeping an eye on the dog press for the lates tweeks.

Well in my numerically small breed it is very difficult to get, especially when some champ shows schedule Minor puppy and Puppy classes in a breed with few pups at any one show.

For example my pup won both minor puppy and puppy, and beat her brother and half brother who won their classes, including Junior Dog, yet she got no points.  There was only one other exhibit in each of the two classes she was in, but if there had just been one puppy class we would have got the 3 points, there were 3 and four entered in the classes but absent, as young bitches often come in season at this age.

At her first Open show she went right through to RBPIS, but again no JW points, as she had actually come second in Post Graduate, the lowest breed class, and the exhibit that beat her was BOB.

Think this is because of where you live Brainless, in my area and I think the NW it is not unusual to find the entry well into the teens. Attended a show near me and entered my pup in the AVNSC class and there were 7 Elkhounds there and 3 of those were in the puppy class. At the moment there are a good few pups about and think those who live in the right area or are able to travel should not have too much trouble. It may be more difficult at Champ Shows where the sexes are seperated.

Yep...as you say same up here. We usually have a good entry in elkhound classes up here. There are 4 regular owners who attend all the shows who own between 2 and 5 dogs each however I don't recall ever seeing 3 pups in a class.I'm 99% certain my pup will be the only one at the open shows up here at the moment.

Think we had 5 pups at Newark & Notts.

Problem in my breed tends to be at open shows, not Champ shows!  We usually have enough pups for the winner to be able to claim points at Ch level, but at general  open shows usually dont have puppy class scheduled, and lots of judges seem to like giving first to an older exhibit, with the pups in the class making do with BPIB (so no points a lot of the time)  I know this may be a bit of a cynical view, but it happens a lot, and is often not justified by dogs attributes!  Then , of course, we are also sometimes in the situtation you described of having only 2 in the class!  have tried to circumvent this particular problem this year, a promising Junior bitch I bred, plus my dog Pup will be accompanied to shows by my bitch pup too, so we can guarantee having 3 per class at least!
