Can I please have a rant. Why oh why when it is such a lovely day is there a need for folk to cut grass during the day. I suffer from hayfever badly  and the neighbours have been grass cutting I would like to spend some time in the sun too. Oh how i wish they would do it in the evening OK thanks for that I feel better now. Hope you are all having a lovely day

I agree with you Jean. I've come home today from a show to find my neighbours cutting the grass. Ok one of them needed to - her grass was about 3 feet high! Don't think she'd cut it once this year. But why at the hottest time of day? My grass is quite high, but I'm waiting until this evening. Mind you, the pollen count will probably be at it's highest by then after such a nice day :( And yes, I suffer with hay fever too.

You know I have never ever considered that :(
I don't suffer from hayfever and neither does anyonelse in the family so I have never thought of it.
I will from now on though - as a thought when as a hayfever sufferer would you cut the grass- a time that would cause the least annoyance.

I dont cut the grass Jim does it and I stay indoors with windows and doors closed. I can even smell it if I am on the bus then my nose starts twitching the sneezing starts then the itchy runny eyes its a pain.

Soz,
I didn't explain that clearly enough; As a hayfever sufferer what time of day would you prefer your neightbours cut their grass so to cause you the least annoyance :)

In that case then you would love me I cut the grass about 7.30-8.00ish twice a week and it's normally very short :)

The trouble is the grass can only be cut when it is dry, so often the evening isn't possible because of dew. Also some councils have bylaws about only using mowers in certain hours. Best to check.

You'll upset somebody whatever time of day you cut it. My friend complained to me that her neighbour cut the grass at 7pm - she thought it was inconsiderate because her 2 year old was in bed !!.
I find it annoying on a lovely peaceful Saturday night, friends round for a bbq - chap next door gets his noisy petrol mower out for an hour !!.

I live out in the country with 7 neighbours. Mostly elderly. The grass cutting gets done at different times of the day as it's usually one of the neighbours that does most of them! I work mornings, which leaves me afternoons (about an hour before I have to leave again to collect daughter from school) or the evenings. Weekends are strictly for dog shows! :D ;) :D If I'm back early enough from a show I'll think about mowing in the afternoon - if it's not too hot :) So long as I'm finished by 8pm I don't think I'm upsetting anyone. Well, maybe him next door, but then he's playing with his tractor some nights until 10  Yes, a real tractor. He takes it to shows. It goes in his garage, whilst the 2 cars sit outside

And then there's folk like me who think cooking outdoors is really inconsiderate - all that smoke on my washing, not to mention the awful smell of charred sausages. Just proves that whatever your doing you're bound to be offending someone .......

I'm with you on that, Joyce! Ban barbecues!
:)

That's good to hear, J/G.  I thought I'd be on my own with this one !

same here i though i was being a kill joy... I really don't like my washing smelling of burgers and onions ...i like to eat them not wear the smell on my clothes .....

Not sure about banning barbies but with you on the grass cutting thing. I used to live next door to a bloke who cut his every single day ( about two hours with a petrol mower followed by a stimmer). I eventually decided that if I was Prime Minister I would not allow grass cutting at weekends. If you can't cut it on a weekday (evenings would be allowed) you would be forced to pave your garden instead.:-)

I'd also introduce sportscar police who could confiscate any sports car being driven on a sunny day with the roof closed and donate it to someone more deserving.

It doesn't make any difference to me when my neighbours cut the grass - I get hayfever anyway. I don't think that we can expect people to be that considerate. There is no good time to cut the grass - if we do it too early we may wake someone up - mid-day spoil their BBQ and in the evening wake the baby :)

What a miserable lot of buggers you are!!!!!!!!!
I work full time and afraid the lawn gets get when I can fit it in and the weather is right.
No doubt you would be moaning if they never cut it, and sure the people with young kids dont appreciate it being done in the evening.
- By jazzywoo Date 17.05.04 18:07 UTC
Well I wouldn't annoy you Jean I dont have any grass ;) .  My OH is a hayfever sufferer like yourself so we have the same problem.  My neighbour cuts his grass at about 7 am now that should be banned IMO.

surely the grass can only affect hayfever suferers when its actually producing heads (ie pollen)??? If grass is cut every couple of days it cvannot be growing heads as well.
We have been cutting our grass here since Friday (400 acres!!) and worked right through friday night. I am off to bed now (long drive home from SKC!) but they will be bringing in the grass until about midnight & then start again in the morning. there are 6 tractors in convoy  its like a motorway at the moment in our lane!!
