Topic Dog Boards / Showing / How to get GOOD ringcraft help for GSD?

Hi, I have a 'germanic' type of German Shepherd, she is nearly 10 months now and I have entered her our first open show (23rd May). But I need some help and advise on how to show her correctly for her type (we currently go to ringcraft classes but there isn't anybody there knowlegable about GSD's), at a 'Companion Dog Show' I was given a little advise but I think that that would have been more relevent had my GSD been an english type (was advised to hold her head high!?).
Is there anywhere that I can travel to for class help or private lessons? I also need to know which where the shows for her type are? I live in North Wales but could travel to the North West for help. Any help and advise would be greatfuly apreciated (can't travel to many shows to watch as I rely on transport form my partner and he gets a little bored (else I would have loved to go to the GSD Champ shows this month), but hope to get driving myself soon. Thanks Lisa.

I take it you're going to N.Yorks and S.Durham show next Sunday :-)  I'll be there along with loads of other people who if you ask around most will be very helpful.  I take it that by the champ shows you mean the back to back ones?  There's also a champ show on the 13th June, West Yorkshire, held at Huddersfield.  Please PM me and I'll try to help you out.

Hi, the open show on 23rd of may is a local one with GSD classes (Rhyl Canine Society show), I am going to try very hard to persuade my partner to take me to see the back to back Champs shows at end of this month. Thanks.

Have you tried your local breed club.  I haven't shown Sasha yet, but take her to Bolton GSD club, I know it would be a bit of a trek for you, but I'm sure there's a GSD club of Wales - you'll probably find the details from a good search engine.  At Bolton they train every Sunday between 2 and 4 and though it's mainly obediance, they do help with ringcraft if you tell them that's what you're interested in.

Hope this helps.

Hi, the GSD club of Wales is based in South Wales (many hours away). I don't want to mix any obedience with the ringcraft as my GSD picks things up very quickly and I don't want to confuse her for the show training but thanks for letting me know (Ive just been told about GSD showing classes in St Helens), thanks Lisa.
