In most breeds there is usually only a nominal fee to cover expenses, when the stud in unproven. You don't say what breed but make sure that both your dog and the bitch have all the necessary health tests and the results are satisfactory, that they are suitable for breeding, and are compatible as you along with the owner of the bitch you will be liable should any claim be made against you for any problems a puppy buyer may have with the pup or it's temperament. If both you, the bitch owner and both dogs are novices you would be wise to seek the help of someone who has experience of mating dogs, they will also need a fee. Best place to start would be with the breeders of the dogs and if they are not available or willing join and ask help from one of the breed clubs.

You should also be aware that the temperament of your male may change..he may become male aggressive and he may start unsociable habits such as marking his territory..for example inside your house.
It is also possible for the male to injure himself during mating...so be prepared for vets bills.

Hi
The first thing you have to do with any dog that you want to breed is go through the relevant health tests. These can be done only if your dog is kennel club registered.
I have found that breeders or back street breeders often approach people with dogs just for a cheap stud fee. They think they have a novice that wont charge them a lot for the stud fee.
You would have to look at the pedigrees of your dog too. You dont want to double up on bad genetics.
What breed is your dog a boxer ?  I am sure some experts in your breed will come along here.
But in most breeds the price of a puppy is the normal charge for a stud fee, unless unproven then you come to some sort of agreement to the fee.
Some people take half the amount and half when pups are born. Some people take half the amount as its first mating. Others want full amount up front no matter if its unproven or not. Everyone is different.
Someone said be prepared for vet bills, well yes you should tell the person with the bitch to have her smeared so she is carrying no infections of bacterias that can harm your dog. You should also have your dog tested. As you could end up spending a lot of money with a sexually transmitted disease. Not worth the £200 for the stud fee really is it!.  So if you want to go down the route of having a stud dog then think carefully, do the tests, and good luck.
I had a dog that damaged the end of his Willy because he was too adventrous. He had to see the vet for several weeks and have anti-biotics. I was told that he was lucky as the dog can actually break its Willy during mating. Something to think about.
