Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Brother picking on dog

My brother of 24 has recently moved near to me, i was really happy when he first came up, we went out had a laugh and i was really glad he lived near me.

But from the first time he came to mine, he has been picking on my dog, he seems to think its funny to throw pillows and toys at my dog when he is resting, i keep telling my bro to stop it, but he says hes only playing, but my dog doesnt know that!

I dont want to ban my bro from mine, but he wont leave the dog alone, the dog is only 8 months old (GR) and im worried my brothers behaviour will have an effect on my dogs behaviour towards men!??????

Any help will be great
as i dont know what to do

Tell your bro in no uncertain terms that what he's doing is unacceptable and if he doesn't stop that he won't be welcome in the house any more.  Even if he thinks it's playing, the dog doesn't and it'll end up just hating the sight of your brother. :(

Ask him how he would like it if some idiot kept throwing things at him when he was trying to rest. Would he think it was a fun game?

What a complete prat!!! why do you let him do it i would have kicked him out by now the dog depends on you to keep it safe and well and you are letting some fool do this to him.

I'm with the others and can't understand how you could let ANYONE upset or scare your dog. I don't care who they are, they would be out of my house in a shot, you say he is 24..is that going on 6?
I would tell him to grow up andnot to come again until he does. !!!!!!!! :-(

i agree with the other's
have you tried throwing things at him evey time he does it to your pup (only do it harder) and see how he likes it.
and tell him you will not stop doing it until he stop's doing it to the pup.  and it is also a good idea to remind your brother that he is only a pup

I cant relate to anyone who teases or thinks its funny to throw things at dogs!
He may be your brother, but he is out of order, it could have an effect on your dogs behaviour later on..

Remember this is YOUR dog and YOU are the person who is in charge of how he will turn out in later life. Stop this abuse NOW before your dog starts getting aggressive towards strangers and if your brother looks like hes about to do it again say ''stop NOW or you can get out of my house''. Finally, remember your dog doesnt like this happening to him and your brother is abusing him.

I had a similar problem with my bro in law and my dog, i said about it on here but i cant seem to find the post anymore....Well anyway, I told him several times to stop and he never, so his brother (my bf) had a quiet word with him but it went down like a lead baloon and the BIL hasnt spoken to me since, but i dont regret saying anything to him, you stick to your guns, its your dog not his!

I agree with the rest. If it was me and I had to choose between my brother and my dogs, the dogs would win. Your brother is showing you no respect either - tell him outright that he isnt welcome in your house unless he abides by your rules.
