Anyone know anything about chihuahua's as a friend of mu sister has just brought YES brought this morning, a puppy who is JUST 6 weeks old a cross between a (tiny)yorkie and a chihuahua. The pup is little it seems but she knows nothing about either breed. She has asked my sister to ask me how to feed him as he's so tiny?

Hi Jackie,
Well after being up this afternoon I am appalled :( "The "breeder" hah! a man and woman who when I phoned to ask what to feed said oh they've been eating the same as the cat!!!!!!!! don't worry get some of the cat food we get ours from Aldi! They put the cats food down and the pups there were 5 eat when they are hungry, they have water never had milk!!!!and they've never wormed them this little one is full of worms and we think has had fleas or an animal in the house has.
We have taken the pup to my vet who said "Good Lord just what you hope never to see."
The people have let a friend have the Mom a Yorkie 2 weeks ago. The pup is not 6 weeks old as she was told, the vet said but he estimated 4.5 weeks old thats all.
I've told her to take the pup back but she won't but I don't think she has the time to look after this little one she works 30 hours a week her husband who doesn't even know about the pup yet :( works full time and they have 3 kids between 5-9 I wouldn't class her as dense normally and I am sure she will do all she can for the pup but sometimes. She said once she went into see the pups she couldn't walk out and leave him behind - that I can understand.
The vet has given her a diet sheet and wormed the pup.
Sorry to rant but sometimes.....

What can one say, you just despair with such stupidity, not your friend but the breeder, and to make it worse we get at least one on here every day so that little scrap is only one in a long and sad line.

Poor pup - the result of an irresponsible fool who has the nerve to sell these pup's after allowing the mating in the first place and then rearing them on crap food and letting them go far to early, dare I ask how much was paid?? :( - I aint no puppy rearing expert but my puppy food at home (JWB) can be fed from six weeks so I guess most reputable brands could also be fed from this age - hey, anything has to be better than aldi cat food! I wouldn't involve the 'breeder' at all - lets hope the husband doesn't have a fit, the kids are nice to it, its properly socialised and that your friend has all the patience in the world! What do you reckon the chances are Karen???

Hi Sarah,
Well they paid £125.00.
No the husband hasn't had a fit, but he is annoyed that these people are selling such obviously young pups and that his wife is fool enough to buy one!
He is a very nice man who is at this moment making the pup a small puppy pen in the conservatory and each room so you know where he is without treading on him he is soooo small.
The pup has been named "Arnie" as in the terminator!!! don't ask but it sort of suits him.
The kids are really really nice and when I went they all three told me in hushed tones "Leave him alone if he's asleep he's just a baby. He'll come to you if you sit on the floor quiet."
The husbands Mom has been roped in to puppy sit. Which I think she will love having lost her cocker last year.
I hope this pup will be fine, just hope the others were as lucky. Oh yes Sal is booked for socialization classes when he's bigger and my next door neighbour has said he can come and play with her toy and Min poodle youngsters when he's had his jabs :)

Awww thats something eh :) It sounds good so far (apart from the £125.00 bit ;)) Lets hope Arnie does well with his new family, hopefully the yorkie in him will make him think he is a lot bigger than he is :D

Karen - it sounds as if this puppy has fallen on his feet as far as his family is concerned - with you in the background with the knowledge, he sounds as if he will make it - but what a complete couple of ****ds bred him - I do wish we could do something about people like them :(

I have Chihuahuas. I would recommend feeding a good quality, premium dry kibble puppy food, small bites and if needed you can add a little water if he's not good at chewing yet. They don't need much, but they DO need to be offered a little about 4 times a day at that age. You can give a little treat now and then. When adult, 2 or 3 times a day. If their tummies get too hungry, their blood sugar can drop VERY easily. It's called hypoglycemia. This can be life threatening. If it is picky, add a little cottage cheese, just a tad. You can't play that game like you can with big dogs where if they don't eat, fine....wait till next meal. Just be careful the pup doesn't get overweight because they often have a disorder where the trachea collapses and they have a hard time breathing for a few seconds. It is not thought to be dangerous as they always seem to get over it. It helps to gently massage the sides of their necks and manipulate the trachea a bit. I just thought I'd warn you if you ever witness this because it can be alarming. Obesity will really aggrivate this condition. Good luck. They are lovely little companions....very affectionate. Be sure to socialize this pup too, like you would a big dog so it doesn't turn into an ankle biter. LOL.
