Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / DALMATIAN TYPES AND INFO REQUEST PLEASE
- By Guest [gb] Date 14.05.04 18:04 UTC
i am interested in adding a dal bitch to our home, i was just wondering, are there seperate lines, like working/show labs, because i love the look of perdy in 101 dalmatians, but dont like the almost whippet like dals.
so are there seperate types?

Also can the females be trained to be good with other dogs?
and be good off lead?
(if lots of training and sociolisation is put in)

Hi,
No there is only one 'type' of dalmatian - just good and bad examples! This is where you have to do your homework to find out which breeding you like the look of best, and which kennels consistently turn out the type that most appeals to you! (An important thing is to buy only from a breeder who BAER tests all their stock.)

Both males and females are generally good with other dogs and are fine offlead - if, as you say, they are properly trained (and have been bred with temperament in mind). The dogs can be a bit on the bumptious side with other dogs, but no more so than any other breed.

Hope this helps.
