Can anyone tell me where my nearset puppy/obedience class is? I live in the Wimbledon/Morden Area

Have you looked at the APDT website? There is a members list by county which will give you the details of the nearest trainer to you.

If you contact the Kennel Club they will provide you with a list of clubs near to you.
Have a look at their website and there should be a contact number on there.

Be aware that just because a club is KC registered is not equivalent of a "kitemark", the quality of the training etc......................

I would always go to the APDT site first.

Would like to make the suggestion that word of mouth from other dog owners and local show people is perhaps a good way.

The training class which I run for West Riding Canine Ringcraft has held KC reg since 1946, we welcome ALL handlers and ALL breeds, we specialise in training junior handlers but teach all the same routines regardless of age and just add in competition requirements for the juniors.

I have been secretary/trainer for 15 years and in that time I am proud to say that amongst my members I have had one Crufts BIS, many many first prize winners at Champ shows and our juniors regularly qualify for the semi finals at Richmond.

Our membership costs are £3.50 for the year for a family plus 50p each week per head through the door.

APDT may be and indeed is good but not for general show training.

I think the original poster was looking specifically for puppy/obedience training, NOT ringcraft?

Your local Vet should have a few that would be in your area. They can also recommend them aswell.

If you go to www.puppyschool.co.uk  these are puppy school classes and you can pick your area.  If it is not puppy socialisation classes you want you could contact the tutor anyway as they will probably do more classes.  The beauty with theses classes is that each tutor has trained with Gwen Bailey.

Always go and watch a class in progress before enroling. If you are too late to look before booking ask to go and watch before handing over any fees. If they are reluctant to let you then don't go.

People would be more than welcome to come and observe my puppy classes - but I have to request payment up front otherwise I could get 'no shows' and that's a place I could offer to another puppy..

I have the same problem, with people wanting a space and then not returning enrolment forms. But, if they ring inbetween courses then they are welcome to come and watch. Most times they pay there and then and come when we start the next course. They can then come and sit and soak up the atmosphere and join in if time permits. :)
