My OH and I would like to move back to our native Scotland (I moved away when I was 13  ). We have lived in six different countries during the last nine years, and would now like to settle down. So, as soon as OH can find a job we hope to move, I've been surfing the net looking at home builder websites to get an idea of prices etc.  Unfortunately I haven't been able to find many Scottish ones, alot of the builders are based in the SE of England.  Can anyone tell me the names of home builders up in Scotland.  The only ones I came up with was Barratt and Laing.  Thanks.

Are you wanting to go for a new build?  If so you can try Robertsons, they're a firm local to the North East.  Depends on what area you want to settle in, I guess!

try www.spcmoray.com

Local solicitors' property centre site.  I seem to remember they have links to builders' sites - but I could well be wrong!

Depending on Price band, Size of property required, area of preference depends on the recomendation.  I know quite a few of the house builders if you want to expand a little or are you open as to where you go.

I will give you a list if you like with some numbers.

Thanks BennyBoo and Blue, my parents lived up in Forres (beautiful area) so I know Moray very well, but think we will be looking at Central belt (better employment prospects).  We really don't mind where we go, but I would like to be at most an hours drive from a main city (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness or Perth).

I will stick something together and forward if you like.

People like Red Row I think are offering quite good value for money, Lomand Homes, Thomas mitchell.  ( last 2 are Fife companies but very good houses)

The eastern expansion in Dunfermline, Fife is the largest housing expansion in the whole of Europe, because of this I think you can find good value for money with the appropriate house builder. Some are just rubbish of course like anything else but there are a couple fairly good ones.    Dunfermline used to be the capital of Scotland many many moons ago and has recently been returned to a city status with the growth in population. From Dunfermline it is 60 mins to glasgow, 20-30 mins to Edinburgh. 30 mins to Dundee and also 30 mins to Perth as the main A90 north runs along side it. They also run Park and rides to the cities from here.

I don't live in Dunfermline BTW LOL but I work there.  I recently bought a house there that I remtn out though as an investment.

Blue!  What speed do you drive at to make Dunfermline to Dundee in 30 minutes :D  Seriously, its about 20 minutes further north than Perth, on the A90 which is a good clear road that only gets jammed when there are roadworks on it ;)  Dundee also has an extensive house building programme going on, with some nice little rural developments of new housing dotted about nearby.

I agree about Dunfermline being a good place though!  I lived there for about a year before ex's work moved us to Dundee, and thoroughly enjoyed it!  It's good and near to Edinburgh and has a nice range of shops etc.

Good luck Jax, and welcome home when you get here :D
