Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / staff with bold spot
- By Guest [gb] Date 13.05.04 08:36 UTC
Hi,

I have a male staff who is nearly 12 months old I have noticed that he has a small bold spot on the top of his head which is a bit bigger than a 5 pence piece this has not got any worse but does not seem to be clearing up I was told it may be due to his teething and clear up on its own, I have heard of Demadax? but if it ws that would it not get worse I also have another dog she is just over 2 and no sign of fur loss with her.

Comments Please.

I only have experience with bitches, I'm afraid :)

My smallest bitch loses fur when she's in season due to her hormonal changes.  I think if she was a longer coated breed it would be unnoticable but because Staffs are so short coated you can notice the smallest change.

I wouldn't worry about it either unless the skin looks red and inflamed and the hair loss starts spreading.  Trust your vet in this instance.

On another subject - my Staffy has several bold spots, she's just one big bold spot, really!  ;)

my staffy babe candy has a bit of fur loss near her eye but the vet said its really common in staffs and is cos she's teething.she looks very motheaten though its a shame cos she's beautiful otherwise..aren't they the best!!:)

Hello
Don't worry Staffs often get a bald spot and it's very common on the top of the head too, comes sometimes during teething some stay some go.
Don't worry loads of Staffs have them including mine :)

Hi,

I have taken Murphy to the vets who has confirmed that this is not demadex and that she thinks it may be caused by teething etc which someone has already mentioned and that there is nothing that they can give him,  Is this fur likely to grow back or will he be have this all the time.

My Male Staffie of 14 months had a bald patch on his tail.
It just seemed to apear, about a third of the way down.
If I remember rightly, people on here said it was a sweat gland and it was quite common.
It was there for months, I didn't think it was going to go. I never treated it in any way, and eventually without me really noticing it's disapeared.

Hello.

I don't know you know; Sal's went away although I don;t recall when but came back not as noticable when she was in season, but this time nothing at all so I assume they go away on their own the bald spots that is ;)
