Texan bars were good and 5 Boys chocolate bars. Terrys used to make Milk and Plain Sandwich which I liked. Montego bars, Summits, Spangles, anyone remember Spangles?
- By Lara Date 12.05.04 16:38 UTC
My OH loved Texan bars - still goes on about them.  I love parma violets as a kid and still do but my all time favourites now are jelly belly gourmet jelly beans - they're fab :D

Aztec Bars!  Yippee!!!  They did try bringing it back relatively recently, but it wasn't the same thing at all - it didn't have that white layer of nougat in it!  Oh for a proper original Aztec bar now :D

Black jacks and fruit salads, because you got lots of them for a penny :D Everlasting toffee chews! Crispets the oval chocolate sweets with coconut in them mmmmmmm.Mojo's spearmint flavour.Pink shrimps and bananas.Sherbet dips but I always threw the liquorice stick away as I didn't like it.Rainbow sherbet mix,I sucked that until my mouth was sore.

Ice cream that they served you in little cones in the Sat.Morning pics or Mr.Whippy with lashings of yucky sweet flavouring poured all over it!

No wonder my dentist bills are so high :D

Sweep you can still get Frys Peppermint Creams but I havent seen a 5 centre for ages. Did you get your hair done in the end?
- By arched [gb] Date 12.05.04 21:42 UTC
I remember wagon wheels being huge !. Now they are about the same size as a 10p coin !!!.
Also, going to the local corner shop for a 5p mixed bag (mojo's, fruit salads, space ships, prawns etc). It would last forever - wonder what 5p would buy now !!.

Anyone remember Pacers, like stripy minty chewits, used to love them and also Stardust that crackled on your tongue!
- By mitch [gb] Date 12.05.04 22:22 UTC
I remember Pacers, I loved them. They used to be plain white, before they added the stripe.
Also Dainties were one of my favourite (a big toffee for 1p).

Michelle.

Pacers?

Like a chewit but spearmint (i think) flavour and a bit more chewy...... i think i remember them, from when i was very very small (i was born in 1980) i dont remember them after about 85/86....... is that what im thinking of?

Anyone remember the sugar in straws..... they were mid eighties, and then vanished, only to reappear just recently...... they were actually horrible, and messy but we loved them!

I wasnt allowed many sweets as a kid, so i dont remember that many.... i remember some sort of cheese flavour football shaped crisps though.....

the pink shrimps were my favorite, the ones you get now are not the same. ohh and milk bottles.
- By Alexanders [gb] Date 13.05.04 19:38 UTC
Pink shrimps were also my favourite - sometimes if you are lucky you can get the same ones, but mainly they are horrible now.  I also loved flying saucers (still do) and spangles. Sherbet fountains and cola cubes - Oh I must go and visit some of the sites you recommended now!

Fiona

Edited to add: Ahh yes Sweet tobacco was definitely one of my favs! (I had forgotten that one)
- By sweep Date 14.05.04 13:52 UTC
Lorelei - I know you can still get Fry's Chocolate cream but I have stopped eating Chocolate/sweets since being on diet for Son's Wedding(have lost 2.5 stone so far).  Yes I did get my hair done, and have since found another Hairdresser!!! Thanx for asking.

I haven't seen a 5 centre for years, but I did get a Frys Orange Cream the other week :D
- By LF [gb] Date 14.05.04 14:39 UTC
Orange is good, but 5 Centres used to have a yummy pineapple segment in it :) Now there would be a chocolate bar and a half; Fry's Pineapple Cream :D

Many of the above and as a very, very special treat Walnut Whips.

I had one the other day and it was rubbish - small, thin chocolate around the outside and hardly any filling.  I seem to remember they seemed almost hand made - no two were identical and the half walnut sat comfortably on top with room to spare
- By LF [gb] Date 14.05.04 15:06 UTC
Plus, think back even more Kerioak :)  Not only were they bigger, with thicker chocolate, but they used to have half a walnut inside them too, sitting on the bottom, under the creamy stuff :D
