Hi
I have a 4 month old springer spaniel puppy. He is house trained and likes to go to the loo in more or less the same spot in the garden on the concrete slabs (not the grass). He as yet has never gone to the loo at all when we are out on walks, although he is sniffing at everything interesting when out. I would even go as far as far as to say he holds on until he gets back to go in his same spot. I have walked for hours to see if I can wait until he wants to go, but he still just waits.
Is this something he may grow out of? or any sugestions what I can try?
Thanks

a 4 month old puppy should only be having approx 20 mins walk a day...much more than that is not good for him

I think Guest was maybe exaggerating a tad.... I do the same myself, can be a handicap when you're trying to be precise :)
A lady on my street owns a miniature shnauzer who refuses to go in his own garden. He'll only go in the woods, and he's 4 now. Be thankful he doesn't do that!
I think puppies tend to want to go in places that smell right to them. If the garden is already marked with his scent that's where he'll want to go - no doubt the woods etc smell of loads of different dogs, most of them mature adults. May be freaking him out somewhat, but no doubt he'll grow out of it!

At 4 months he's vulnerable, so doesn't want to advertise the fact that he's about to 'the opposition' so naturally he's not going to want to wee/mark anywhere other than where he feels it's safe. He'll probably grow out of it.

I must admit I prefer my own loo too. If I'm really desperate and miles from home then I'll use a public toilet but if know I'm going to be home soon then I'll hold on. ;)

Treasure that ability Sally - after three children for me, holding on is not an option ;)
