i bought a shar pei puppie who looked black when i bought him, infact he was regesterd black on his kc ,he turned out to be  a loverly red dog no body would belive it was the same puppie as he changed that much ,he also had tan markins on his head and feet witch is bad for the breed but i fell in love with him at first sight and wasnt botherd about his markins ,but like i said he changed colour any way and was solid red..

Colour genetics in Staffies is so strange - probably because they're basically allowed to be any colour bar black and tan!  (Someone correct me if that's wrong, but I'm sure that's what my breed books say... but I have been known to be very wrong in the past!)

My black Staffy (off a black and white sire, brown brindled mother) had a red stud (off a red mother, black sire) had a litter of 7:

1 black
3 chocolate coloured
3 chocolate with very faint brindling.

I thought I may have got a red from her as her grand-dam was red, but no!

the colours not allowed in the show ring are black and tan and liver/chocolate

So what's liver/chocolate? I presume it's reddish and dark brown.
You'll have me starting on that next :D :D

hi Michelle ;) :D

here is no chance your girl is a liver ;)
liver tend to have brown a nose and they are a light brown when born and get darker as they get older there is no hint of red in a brown (well the 1s i have seen anyway)
