I am an owner of a red and white 3 year old boxer bitch and wish to find a stud preferably red and white or red brindle. I live in the South East is there anyone who may be able to help. Presumably your bitch has had all the necessary health checks, including heart test? You have left it far too late to find a suitable stud and, to be honest, if you need to ask on a board such as this, you do not have the necessary knowledge to begin breeding. Forget about breeding her this season & use the next 6 months to find out how to go about things properly, so that you don't put the life of your bitch and the future welfare of her puppies at risk.

why do so many people leave it so late? i was going to post a reply to guest but i knew someone would come along and word it much more politely than i woudl have !!! :D

i did think about leaving it til the last minute then common sense took over and it was arranged about 2 months in advance :D

I can never  understand why people do not speak to the dogs breeder and if they were unexperienced speak to the stud dog ( sire) owners .

So we are supposed too be advising,I didnt know that there were critics,weve all had to start from some where and we all learn by our mistakes.But then again some poeple are just spot on WRONG.Guest are you willing too travel?If so how far ? i think you should join.All health checks been done? No reputable stud dog owner will even give you the time of day if you havent.Hopefully my girl is in whelp and its our 1st time and im really scared,nervous and excited shes on day 26 im goin too need advise not being crititised just your help.

This is not called an Advice Board, it's called Information Exchange!  If you were talking about baking a cake, then I agree, we can all learn from our own mistakes and throw our failures in the bin!  Breeding dogs is not in the same catagory at all.  The learning necessary takes years to learn and should be learned from those passing on THEIR experience, otherwise a novice's failures will be sold to unsusspecting families, giving years worth of grief, worry and Vets' bills!

Distance should never be a priority.  A breeder should be prepared to travel wherever is necessary for the right stud for their bitch!
IMO if you don't have sufficient knowledge and experience, or at least a knowledgable and experienced breeder accessible to you for backup, then you shouldn't be putting your bitch at risk, by mating her!! (or someone else's bitch, if you are using your dog at stud) :(
The internet is brilliant for finding information if you know who is posting the information  I could be telling you to do all sorts of things and that I am the Chief Veterinary Advisor in charge of breeding the Queen's corgis (ha ha ha) and you'd be none the wiser!!  And more importantly, your bitch would be at risk!

The thing is just any old stud will not do if the poster wants to breed puppies that are a credit to the breed, it has to be the right stud. So even if the bitch has had all the health tests done and they are satisfactory, the owner will have to find out about the breed lines and the easiest way to do that is to contact the bitches breeder, who should have that information at their finger tips. That is why it has been suggested that the poster does just that. At this late stage I can see no other way, as the owner does not have time to learn and to take the advice of someone who knows the bitches ancestry is the only way to go if you do not have time to study it for yourself.

The breeder of your bitch may well have taken steps to stop you breeding - have you checked her KC registration for endorsements and read through any contract you have signed? Many breeders put clauses in their contracts that you HAVE to refer to them if you want to breed and you could be in breach of contract if you go ahead without doing so.

By saying something like that you may find people reluctant to offer advice incase you take it the wrong way.

Like all things in life you get them both.  People are not going to tell you or anyone just what you want to hear that is life. If someone doesn't constructively correct you , you will continue doing the same mistakes over and over.The isn't a " hear what you want to hear board" I can assure you we have all be contradicted, or correct at sometime whilst being members. That is what makes it a board for exchanging opinions. 

Boxers are a breed that needs a fair bit of planning due to the health test requirements, thought has to be put into the colour of the dogs, you may need to look at a few before you decide which is best. That can't be done a few days before mating.   too much white on both sire and dam may result in large numbers of whites etc.

My honest opinion is for the guest to wait till next season and inthe mean time make sure all tests have been done, the dog is of a standard to be bred from and you have the appropriate stud lined up.  There are thousands and thousands of pet boxers in rescues only the good ones should be bred from.
