Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Calling all flatcoat people!
- By Guest [gb] Date 07.05.04 15:18 UTC
Hi,

I lost my baby flattie about 2 years ago and I now feel ready to get another, he was by no means a young dog when he went to the bridge (I just called him my "baby"!), he was actually 12 1/2 which as I understand is quite an acheivement for this very very special breed, after all as I was once told "I would rather own a flattie who dies young than any other breed" as I expect many of you will agree with me,

Sorry for going on about that but I just want people to know how dear the breed is to my heart, my last boy (Jakey) was a Taranbeck with Belsud, Claverdon, Riversflight and Wizardwood behind his lines, ideally I would like these lines again, my friend also owned a bitch that was sired by a Riversflight dog (Sivan), so she would like to see some Riversflight in him (as she will be grooming him as often as needed I would like to comply with her R. wishes!),

To be honest lines are all very good and in a ideal world I would like to have these lines but I understand that there are not many of these 'older' lines about these days?

Does anyone know of any litters due in the near future with these lines behind them? I am not to bothered about being put through to the litter secutary as I am not a first time owner~ just a few clues about litters would be helpful!

Just so everyone knows my boy will have the best life ever, 3 long walks a day (one bones have grown), running with the horses, many other dogs to play with (I own three working cockers, plus all my friends own dogs GSD's, Rotties, Cockers, BMD, Afghan etc), gundog training, possible showing, lots of kind fun training and a huge house and garden (plus I am at home all day).

Thanks in advance!

Actually Jill, most of the older lines are still around. Obviously Claverdon is no longer around following the death of Amelia Jessel but in fact all the other Affixes are still going strong. I'm sure one of the Flatcoat people will be around soon to give you more info.

Best wishes, John

You can get lots of information on Flatties by going through Google, the breed clubs have a wealth of information to be discovered. I grew up with a Flattie and my friend has two, they are a fabulous breed :)

Hi Guest the breeder of your dog is still around. I know this as you give his affix. Email me on foxpath4@yahoo.com and I'll give you the contct details of your last dogs breeder. Last year when judging the breed i awarded ist and second in the puppy class to Taranbeck bitches.
John has his C's mixed up Claverdon was Dr. Nancy Lawtons affix and the Hon. Mrs Amelia Jessels was Collyers.

John - what's all this about a mob - we don't often mob people, but when we do .....look out!!!

Seriously, there appears to still  be a shortage of pups available as bitches were missing earlier in the spring, so I'm afraid most people are well booked up now.    Just as well to get your name down on a list as soon as possible, but afraid you may have a long wait for the right pup.

LOL @ Jo.
Why is all this missing I wonder? I know Polly said to me about it a few weeks ago about it. I remember the same thing happening a few years ago as well. It seems to be something which happens from time to time, does anyone have any ideas why? I know obviously that any bitch can miss but this seems not to be just any old bitch, rather a whole run of bitches. Is the same thing happening in other breeds?

It's all very worrying, John

some one said to me it may be the hot summer we had untill octber,

then i been reading hilary hamer book on dogs and how to breed them, some where in it she wrote but the weather charge can cause a problem being to hot or cold when i find i will post it on her.

luckley wispa is in whelp and she went through the hot summer and was mated to a swedish dog at the time just come from a cold place ??,plus i always put my bitch on anticbotic for 7 day to cover the mating.

off to work now.

john i found it the book under enviroment ,sudden charges in environment may sometimes cause temporary infertility, particulary where dogs have been expoted from an extremely cold country to the tropics or vice viersa, dogs may become infertile until they have becomw accustomed to the climate change, temperature, length of daylight and and the seasons also play their part.just think how hot our summer was and a mild winter too.

this is from hilary hamer book.
i wounder if it is happening with the wild aniamls too like foxes,

wispa was late in her season, bye a month which is not like her she.but the result with her is good.

Anna was around a month late coming into season last winter Terri. She managed it right at the busiest part of the shooting season!

I can see what your saying but I would have thought that would have affected all breeds much the same but to my knowledge other breeds dont seem to be having problems?? Of course, "HE" threw the mold away after he finished making the Flatcoats so the same rules never seem to apply to other breeds! ;)

Just to let you know, Sue was going to mate Hazell to Jo's Noof this afternoon so I've got my fingers crossed for her. :D

Best wishes, John

i have heard of other breeds missing too,not only fcr.

any way i am glad sue going to try again with hazel,do you know how it went,he a busy boy at the moment???noof is brie and teyha uncle.
so is jo she running the test today ,which andrew gone along to help and to run brie, this is the first time he done a test since harley die,i think we are going to keep a boy for andrew out of this litter for him to work,as you know what problem you get with a bitch with season etc, but  we se how andrew gets on today with brie llittle mouse we call her.

Sue finally decided not to go ahead Terri. She had a think after phoning me and decided no. Shame really because Hazell is sweet and of course her mother Sky is lovely. Both a credit to the breed. I was chatting to Andrew at the test this afternoon. I was only there in the afternoon doing a bit of dummy throwing but it was nice to be able to chat to Flatcoat people again.

Best wishes, John

David approached me this afternoon to lend a hand on the 6th of June. I've provisionally said yes but said I'll confirm a bit nearer the time. I'd like to do it but it all depends on the situation at home at that time. This one is at Carol's farm which is only about 10 miles from me so it's my local!

Best wishes, John

i agree with jo about go on as many breeders list as you can,

every breeders list change from one day to another, like the new owners have found  puppy elis where,or the breed is not right for the family, and so on,so they come off the list,
this week i had 2 that found puppies elis where.that ok beacuse at the moment i donot know how many or the sex of the puppies yet,but some people want a puppy yesterday and cannot wait for the right one.
but if you want the right pup do your home work, ask the right question, the breeder should give you alot of imformation on their breeding progamme, and their dogs history on health, show, working or just a pet,

I am not to bothered about being put through to the litter secutary as I am not a first time owner~

Can I just say that first time owner or tenth time owner, the litter secretary will help you if she can.

Good luck finding a pup.

PS.  Hi Guys!!  Hope you're all well!
- By JoFlatcoat (Moderator) [gb] Date 10.05.04 15:22 UTC
Hello - nice to see you, Monty's Mum!!!

We're completely bushed after yesterday - Andrew did very well with Brie- was looking at his results just now - should think he was well pleased.

John was a star again - thank you so much, John - am e-mailing you later!

Just noticed the bit in the original post that Sue picked up on - why doesn't the visitor want to go to the litter recorder?
