Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Natures diet or Natures menu?
- By HAMISH75 [gb] Date 06.05.04 10:41 UTC
Hi All

I have just been over to my local pets at home and i have noticed that they do a natures diet and a natures menu, they are both made by a different manufacturer and i just wondered what the difference was between the 2, i brought Hamish the natures diet in the week the chicken, carrot and rice which he seemed to like but am just wondering what the natures menu is like, it is made by prize choice and they do the same sort of flavours.
Any comments on these 2 products i would be very grateful for.

Thanks
Helen

I can only comment on the Naturediet, my dogs have been on it for about 6 months now and they love it, and are great on it.  Better to get it direct from Naturediet or Berriewood if you can cope with a bulk order, much cheaper than the shops (course if you have just one diddy dog it might not be worth it)

Both of them would, IMHO, be considerably better than overpriced Caesar which has been designed to capture the "small dog owner" market!

I have used both of these occassionaly, as I keep a few packs in the cupboard for emergencies. They seem quite similar and I am happy to feed either to my dogs (who both get raw food normally). But then my dogs eat anything at the speed of light :D

IIRC they are almost indentical with the exception that nature's menu is made with dried peas (Nature Diet is made with fresh carrot) and Nature DIet contains ground bone - great for teeth, but not so good if you have a beef allergic hound (as a friend of mine did - stopped feeding Nature diet, switched to nature's menu and the symptoms went away - it was the beef bone :( )

Mine all prefer natures menu FROZEN.

I just bought some naturediet to try out, and maybe keep in the cupboard for emergencies - whilst at the till, the woman being served was buying Bakers and asked the Pets@Home blokey "is this alright for puppies, is it recommended" to which he of course said "yes I think so".  I couldn't help but chip in with "its ok if you like hyperactive puppies..." to which she looked over at my naturediet and said "don't you find that gives your dog the runs? It did to mine that's why we stopped".  TOUCHE!!!!!!

Does anyone here find it gives their dog runny poo then?

If she fed it to the pup and changed suddenlyfrom what it was been fed, it may well have given it the runs...........

I may be wrong but is one not cooked and one one not?? anyone

Both have good reputations.

Mine all eat tripe and love it.

Hi there

I have used both naturdiet and natures menu and have found both to be good.  Both my border collies now have naturediet in the evening with their burns.  One is only five months old and was solely on the puppy naturediet and I changed him to adult about a week ago.  Only on to the chicken though for a while as this is the nearest to the puppy one.  I have never had a problem with it and the dogs love it.

The natures menu was just as good but the cooking it up and waiting for it to cool was a bit of a pain plus we go camping a lot during the summer and it isnt really practical.  Not only that other campers dont really appreciate the tripe smell!

Really it is up to you and your dog as they are both very similar meals.  For me it came down to practicalities and the fact that the dogs love it.  I cant ask more than that!

Natures Menu is made by AMP. The packaging isn't so pretty as Nature Diet but the quality is good.

I think the Nature's Menu brand covers raw and cooked products - hence the confusion.

Yep ,I'm sure the frozen natures menu is raw
