Hello im imagine!
Im crazy about dogs :P

Im looking into buying my next dog now, and would love a irish red setter!
I havent got any expereince of this breed, but realise what a huge commitment they need!
I love them because they are just like me in character :D

I thought puppy availibility was easy, but have found that there really arent that many breeders!

so how long would i wait on average for a pup?
and what health tests should i ask about.

thanks

Hi Imagine :) If you are in UK get Dogs Today. In the Dial a Dog section you can ring a breed advisor listed under your preferred breed or you can do a guided search on CD to find contactable breeders to answer your questions.

Hi Imagine, Have you looked at  www.irishsetter.org.uk   You will undoubtedly find some useful information. There have been DNA tests for PRA and CLAD for 11 and 5 years respecively, so almost all breeding stock should have been tested by now and the rest should be hereditarily clear. Of course you should still ask the breeders about test certificates for these diseases.

You must know that Irish Setters are an extremely active breed, and they require lots of free running exercise every day. Some are wild and mischievous, but they are very food orientated, so will respond to bribery. You have chosen a great breed, they are lovable clowns, and great to be around.

Good luck in your search,
Dawn R.
