We have a 1 year and month old Siberian Husky who we had castrated last week due to him having an undescended testicle and one which could have been cancerous. Since having his stiches out 10 days after the operation he has gone back to not being house trained, 3 times we have come down to a mess downstairs in the morning and last night after we had taken him out for his last walk we went downstairs an hour later he had messed the floor. He has also become a little disobedient and dispondent. Any ideas why this could be, are we going to have to re housetrain him or will this just stop?

Thanks

It is possible you will have to go back and start the training over again, and accept the fact he may take a lot longer to grow up, but in the end he will get there. Did the vet take both or did he leave the decended one, if he still has the one he should revert to his normal self soon.

have you called your vet?  i would definatly do that to rule out a medical problem.  then, if that clears, i would work on training again.

Would think the vet had seen him when the stitches were removed, my vet would have done a post op. check up, but perhaps not all do. Reverting is not that unusual, particularly if the dog has had both removed, it is a shock to the system, the hormones have just started to flow to produce the adult dog and there his body is with the hormones suddenly stopped, the effect of hormone removal would take about 2 weeks to show it's self I would think.

Hi, finally managed to log on. Thanks for the replies. Yes Jackie he had both removed as the vet advised this and said it would be for the best. He is still messing in the house, but not everyday, he knows he has to go outside because when he wants out he will go to the backdoor or if open he will take himself out. He doesnt mess in anyone elses house as the in laws had him last week for two nights as we were away and he didnt do it once then and asked to go out, the same thing when my parents had him. It is almost like he is trying to get his own back on us, just this morning I came down to find a nice present on the living room carpet but yesterday he came and asked to be let out, we just can't work him out why is he doing this, the op was three weeks ago and he only started doing it after his stitches were removed and the collar came off? Please help, as it is driving us mad.

Thanks.

Forget that, he has no idea what you have done to him, the effects of the castration take from 2 weeks to 3 months to have an effect on the organism and you will have to work around the new dog you have. If the problems persist beyond 6 months you may need to see the vet about giving him HRT, but avoid it if you can as it has unpleasant side effects and is very expensive.
