Hello
As most of you will know I have a 1 year old BC with HD. My question is not about her problem as we have that sorted now, but how I go about grooming her when she doesnt like us going near her back end.

I dont think it hurts her when we brush her as we are very gentle but if we try she tends to try and nip us as a warning to not go near there. I think she remembers when the first vet we went to see stretched her back leg so hard and she yelped!! poor thing. Shes on Metacam now and her general fitness and nuttiness are fine :), but we really need to brush her because her fur is everywhere and falling out in clumps. The rest of her body she is fine with, so it looks really odd leaving the back part!!

Any advise on this would be great

Thanks

Jo

Start slowly giving treats and praise when shes being good. Busters the same he doesnt like that too but he knows that i have to do it so puts up with me as he knows he gets treats afterwards. He will let me know if its uncomfortable and i stop for a few minutes and groom elsewhere then go back to grooming the back again. Allthough hes not limping or in any pain with his HD at the moment he is sensitive with this area. You have to gain their trust that you WON'T hurt them and that grooming is a pleasurable experince. Do it daily to begin with in short bursts of 1 or 2 mins each time to let her get used to you and the brush in this area then bulid on each progress.
