I like to give a 5 gen pedigree to new owners.I've only been given a 3 gen one by the stud dog owner and Yes I know I can ring him for the details I have missing but it's more fun to do it yourself.
I'm doing ok but I'm one set of parents short.
Sorry it's ESS I'm talking and the name I can't find in any data base is HARDHILL DONNA
Do u think it should be Hardthill????I need to find her parents and then I'm done .She herself is the mother of FTW FLINTMOUNTAIN MAY if that helps.Does anyone have these names on their pedigree.
John or Mattie can u help??????Or do u know a man that can?????
Hope someone knows I'd hate to leave a space
How do you research a pedigree? where do you look or do you need to be a breeder to have access to the databases etc
There are various database's on line and, with various other people I am going to prepare a list and could post it on here. Take a look at the thread "Urgent, what is the formal name" to see what is happenening to some of our hard work at the moment.

Kerioak beat me to it!
I found it a different way. Google search Hardhill Donna and you come up with www.countrywaysgundogs.com
One of his stud dogs is Flintmountain Eric of Edgecombe who is out of Donna.
Parents of Donna gives you two more "red" names to add to the pedigree! :-)
Prefix is definitely Hardhill. This is the prefix of Harry Hardwicke. He presents one of the Spaniel Training videos (& has made up a number of Field Trial Champions!)
Thank you both for your help.
The data base I used was www.smythwicks.org They don't have the pedigrees just the parents of the dog u want to trace, but of course not every dog is in there so it's handy to have one or more scources.
Yes please I wouldn't mind a list of data bases
Mind you I don't know why I bother.I bet none of them will even look at the pedigrees and they'll end up in a drawer somewhere

I know exactly what you mean. I would say that the number of people that could tell you the breedng of their own dogs without looking it up is pretty small!
As you've gone to the trouble, I'd be interested to know the breeding. (Then at least someone will have shown an interest in your hard work! lol) Although I work Labs, I have a strong interest in all the working gundog breeds, & I have a sneaking suspicion that a spaniel of some description will be 'joining the ranks' at some point ;-) .
Click on my name to get my e-mail addy and I'll send u a copy if u like

We put our dog to a bitch out of Hardhill Donna so can help you with the pedigree as we have her 5 generation one!
If you can get a copy of Mike Smith's Training Springers and Cockers there is a comprehensive list in the back that might help you too. It's also got lots of pictures in!
Thanks to everyone but I now have all the info I need to complete. And very nice it looks too!!!
