yes, if you are seeing an ad for a "toy yorkie", you are seeing a backyard breeder trying to make a buck. people say there are "toy chihuahuas" too, but there aren't. good question though, im glad you asked it so you don't get into trouble with an undersized yorkie. (they are already so small! i can't imagine them tinier!)

I own two Chihuahuas and if it's the same as with them, they come in various sizes and anything is acceptable and fine as long as it doesn't EXCEED the maximum which for Chi's is 6 LBS. But they are not classified by size. That is...there is just Chihuahua, NOT toy, miniature or anything else, just Chihuahua. LOL. Chi's also come in many colors and it's all good.
So, go to your breed club's website and learn all about the breed you want, study their conformation and research about finding a reputable breeder, what to look for, what questions to ask the breeder, what questions you should expect the breeder to ask you before you buy.
