please could somebody tell me which is the smallest yorkie. Is it the toy or miniature.

I didn't know there was more then one size, but I would think it would be the toy breed :)

There should only be one size of Yorkie- the breed standard says "up to 7lbs". there is no such thing as a Toy or Mininature Yorkshire Terrier. Any dogs bred over this size have been incorrectly bred - I have seen them as big as Cocker Sapniels !.

yes, if you are seeing an ad for a "toy yorkie", you are seeing a backyard breeder trying to make a buck.  people say there are "toy chihuahuas" too, but there aren't.  good question though, im glad you asked it so you don't get into trouble with an undersized yorkie.  (they are already so small!  i can't imagine them tinier!)

There are no such breeds as 'toy' or 'miniature' Yorkshire terriers. There is only 'Yorkshire terrier' - up to 7lb. Anything else is simply 'wrong' (and being marketed either by ignorant people or conmen).

I own two Chihuahuas and if it's the same as with them, they come in various sizes and anything is acceptable and fine as long as it doesn't EXCEED the maximum which for Chi's is 6 LBS. But they are not classified by size. That is...there is just Chihuahua, NOT toy, miniature or anything else, just Chihuahua. LOL.  Chi's also come in many colors and it's all good.

So, go to your breed club's website and learn all about the breed you want, study their conformation and research about finding a reputable breeder, what to look for, what questions to ask the breeder, what questions you should expect the breeder to ask you before you buy.
