My gran recently took on a 9 yr old Tibetan Spaniel who was a rescue case. The tibbie was in the showring for some time until about 2 or 3 years ago so at one point was in tip top condition. I very much doubt she has been groomed much over the past couple of years or so however since my gran has had her (nearly 6 weeks) she has been bathed once and is groomed every day but the moulting just doesn't seem to stop.
I've just spent a week looking after the dog and I was brushing her 2 or 3 times per day and the amount of hair is unbelievable. Am I to believe this is because she has a long coat and it is to be expected or should the moulting get less and less the more she is groomed

My gran's not complaining cos she loves her to bits.
Excuse my ignorance but us weimaraner people enjoy short coated dogs for a reason you know ;-)

A coated breed will moult twice a year same as other dogs (except the non moulters like poodles),sooner or later it all has to be remnewed, and if thre is a double coat like with my breed, well I can fill the dyson with a once round myliving room when one of them is moulting, have just had one finish, and drat the one in coat is just starting (bother big club show in 3 1/2 weeks by which time she will be a fright!). This is on top of the amount I comb out each day. Thankfully the moult is usually done in 3 or 4 weeks, unless they decide to drop all the top coat too!

Find the bitches do it twice a year but dogs seem to lose it a little all the time with a big clear out about every second year - yes you've quessed they have all chosen to do it together, now, and I have the same show as Brainless, hay ho such is life.
Just noticed the bitch is walking around with BIG lumps of hair between her toes where she has been having her morning scratch so looks like her hair is coming out in symphathy with the boys. Jackie H

Some breeds do shed constantly (for example, wait for it, the clumber spaniel). Don't know if your gran's dog is one of those. Enjoy the periodic moulting and be grateful your carpets aren't blue with a liberal sprinkling of white.

Claire having had longhaired GSD in the past, I decided that I would go for shortcoated breeds after I lost my last one. The GSP's are great but this bracco is now dropping his coat big time!! I can not believe the amount of coat he is losing at the moment. He has also taken to rubbing against tree's,walls and fences in the bid to speed things up!!!

Welcome to moulting season! Morris is losing his fur like nothing on earth at the moment, my blue furniture and carpets are currently white-no matter how many times I hoover! It doesn't help that he has a skin irritation (vet puts it down to 'allergy' (in other words doesn't know what it is!) )so even more is coming out when he scratches.

When my 2 moult, particularly when losing their puppy coats, I have bathed them in Liquid Parafin which helps speed up the moulting process. Great on short coated dogs but bathing a coated dog was quite enough for me without putting Liquid Parafin into the equation
Leigh I'm sure Bear is just trying to be helpful in his own little way :D
With short coated dogs I find the dyson picks up the hairs easier and depending on the colour of your carpet & dog they are not as noticeable. Gran has a deep red carpet covered in pale coloured long hairs

My dad hoovers the dog. :D He uses the furniture attachment and turns the hoover on low. She loves it, well they all have. He's done it with every dog they've ever had and Ebony is number 10.

Have a long coated blue GSD - every time she lies down she leaves a hair print!!

Don't you love it when they do a nose to tail shake and you can see the clouds of hair rising into the air.

I just fronline sprayed my lot outside, and after I had rubbed the moulty one all over there were clouds of it, I had the sense to do them outside in the sunshine! Now I will have to be patient and resist grooming them for two days!

Yeah - and it's always timed perfectly! Just after you've hoovered I find seems to be the optimum time to see this:D

My house is done in a multitude of hair colors. I can't wear black OR white this time of year!
