kenmillto, kenmillone etc indicate that the KC provided the affix not the breeder, it is attached to all breeds of that particular year whose breeders did not apply and pay for their own affix; so Goldies will have this as well as chihuahuas, Great Danes, salukis etc etc

Can you clarify this for me. Say I product a litter and either I do not have an affix or I do have one but for some reason do not want this litter connected to me, I wish to register the litter so I send the form off with just the dogs names like, Jack the Lad & Lively Lady. Would they come back registered just like that or would they have my affix or that of the Kennel Club a Ken****
Thanks, hope you understand what I mean.

Not all dogs bred by a breeder without an affix have the ken mill prefix attached

I think the kc only name them if you don't put anything on the registration form. Say you have 7 pups, you just register the number and sex........the kc then name them Ken****, if you say you want them called 'Jack the Lad' that's exactly what they will be called unless somebody else has named their pups the same!
I think that's how it works, I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong :-)

I believe the Kennel Club's administrative affix is only added if a single word name or a non-unique name is provided by breeder.
Affix comprises 'Ken' plus a year descriptor - last year was Kenmilltri for 'Ken' (KC) 'mill' (mil?) (Millennium) 'tri' (3rd year of Millenium).
The KC now charge £20 per litter for naming pups if names are not provided - I could enjoy doing that job, love mucking about with litter names/themes :D

Brihow Collies...........when I have my next litter, I'll come to you for naming them then, I can never think of names for my pups :-)

Yes please :D

I also like the challenge of coming up with unusual and unique names for pups. Many years ago someone told me to look to the racing pages for ideas. You get some wonderfully obscure names from there.I've found it to be a great help when thinking up ours, especially as I has 12 pups to name this time round, that meant finding 24 names as I didn't want the kennel club selecting one for me.
They are usually very good about changing names and try to get it as close to the chosen name as possible eg we had a buyer for one pup who had chosen the name Rosie so we asked for.Champagne Rosie of Porthtywyn for her and she came back as Moet et Chandon Rosie which was acceptable. However they sometimes get it wrong as on another instance a buyer wanted to call his pup Homer so we asked for Huntingdown Homer and he came back as Huntingdown Bart
Hi Guest, not sure if this is relevent, but last year i rescued a 9 month old husky whos kennel name is Kenmillto Giginio. I pressumed that this wasn't an affix, it may be that it is and the breeder breeds more than one breed and uses the same prefix. Do you know if she only breeds retrievers as i have the address of the breeder on the kc registration papers.

No, as described above, this is the Kennel Club admin prefix.

im impressed, i never knew this happened!
is it a good idea ? or does it just add too confusion?

I think it's a good idea, but does lead to confusion as evidenced by this post :D - have to say, I was briefly confused when we flicked into the new Millennium and the format changed - but did catch on what the Kenmillone affix was.
The GCCF has a mandatory admin affix for those breeders who don't have their own - again, it is made up a generic part, a year indicator and a 'group' (long-hair/short-hair etc.) indicator.

what did it used to be before the millenium?
