hmmf not long back from shopping....bought sir (10 mth boxer) new pouffee cushion bed (in the hope he stops sharing ours,) and two new toys.

Toy number one was a massive bone, looked strong and sturdy, lasted five minutes and now has a hole

Toy number 2 is a massive dumbell that giggles, and by tonite it will also have a hole.

He has lots of toys, raggers, nylabones and kongs but i wanted to get him some more.

What would you recommend as mouth proof?

The other thing is would you go back to the shop for a refund, the toys were over £20 and did not say not suitable for powerful jaws (or jowls :D)

at least he is taken with his new cushion.......

heres hoping for no more squashed ribs when he sleeps on us.

:-)

The Staffy people here will know of toys for the strong jawed :D I know toys for the skint dog owner :D 2L plastic bottles with top and ring removed, for variety stick little treat inside or get rags, tie titbit inside layers of knotted rags and chuck or hide for dog to rip open, cardboard boxes with things hidden under crushed paper, kids bubbles for blowing to dog, or tie ragger etc on a rope and tow rapidly around recreation ground. Morse has a thing for tree branches, he chews the bark off and we make sure its a thick lump so he cant bite bits off like they can sticks. Good job my neighbour is a tree surgeon.

Wouldnt put money on that bed surviving though :)

I have not found any toys so far with the exception of the Boomer Ball that can survive my male Dobermann's jaws.  Even the B. Ball is gradually caving in under repeated assaults on it though :(

Where would we be without  boomer balls!?!?! Our bitch would run after it all day if I'd let her but been told using it too much can wear the teeth down and they can over exert themselves using it too. We went to pets at home the other day and they had the new Nylabone called Collosius I think and it did look as though it's last a fair old while. Some people recommend giving knuckles, cows or pigs not humans, to a dog but others say not to as they can harbour bacteria and make your dog ill and the same goes with shanks and the really big bones they call postmans legs but so far our bitch hasn't had any reaction to having them.

Yep, thank heavens for the Boomer Ball!  I wish we'd discovered it twenty odd footballs ago. :D

I would certainly try the shop for a refund, your statutory rights state that goods should be "fit for their purpose ", though they may try to wriggle out of paying up by saying the toys were meant to be played with and not chewed (though you could argue that bones are meant to be chewed even if it is a toy one :D )

well as i thought second toy is not far from the bin bag ( it can meet toy number one :-))

dont think ill go back to the shop as it was not a local one and is a 20 minute drive away.....will surf the net and see wot else i can buy.

hopefully the cushion should be ok as it will remain in our room and sir wont be unsupervised.......when he is left he is confined to the kitchen in a big plastic bed with bedding and blankets.

OH and i like the cushion its soft and massive, if sir wont get of our bed think OH and i will cuddle up on the cushion.:D :D

will give the boomer ball a try, can it bought on the net.

thanks

Lou

Michelle, they are a really tough plastic football, hard for dogs to sink their teeth into. :)

Looks like they're out of stock on that link.

Crosskeys do 4 sizes
http://crosskeysbooks.com/Tool_Kits/

but you can get the 10 inch (largest size) from here £2 cheaper (but postage is £1 more!)

Told a bloke at our ringcraft club about getting a boomer which he did but rather stupidly he then took his dog over the park with it and instead of throwing it for his dog to chase he kicked it! Two fractured toes later and a valuable lesson had been learnt. Pets at home do a version call the indestructa-ball but the boomer is the toughest one I have come across.

I have a black kong which has stood up to my Dalmatian, the red ones didn't. The black are far tougher.

Blimey - thank heavens for small dogs with small jaws.  All my boy's toys are intact after nearly a year and a half.

both toys are now awaiting collection in bin bags, :-(

have just ordered 8 inch boomer ball and a big kong toy.

hopefully here by the weekend or early next week.

lets hope they last

he can no longer have soft toys as the stuffing is soon pulled out, he use to have a cute soft puppy that he would snuggle up to and kissed......well he murdered that a few months ago.

if he doesnt like the toys think i will play will the ball, but not so i break any bones
