why not to another shih tzu????

Why breed mongrels? Rescue centres are overflowing with them, and they are destroyed daily. There are too many of them for the homes available. If you want a litter from your Shih tzu, mate her to another of her own breed.
:)
All the time in the world, to find homes for your cross-breed pups, :(
Are you prepared to take them back, if things don't work out with their new owners??
Have you considered any possible health/temprement problems??
What if your bitch dies in whelp, or runs up tremendous Vet bills?
I think there's much more to consider, rather than how much time you have to mate her......

If you don't know what is the correct date for mating and how to tell when she is ready then I don't think you should breed her at all. Have you shown her at all? Has she had all the health checks? Is she registered with the AKC? Why do you want to intentionally bring a litter of potentially unwanted mixed breed puppies into a world in which there is already too many unwanted dogs?
What if your bitch needs a c-section(Shih Tzu's often need them), do you have the funds to pay for that operation? Or if she gets eclampsia, mastitis, or any one of a number of diseases that a brood bitch can get, can you pay for the treatment and take care of her and her babies? She could even die, then you would be left with a litter of pups to take care of and you will have lost your pet. I won't even start with the huge list of diseases and deformities the puppies can have.
Think again about breeding your girl. I wanted to breed my Gordon bitch, I knew what could happen, I had some experience with breeding and whelping dogs. She did well in the ring, she had a good character, she passed the eye tests and she had no elbow dysplasia, but I chose not to breed her because her hips weren't that good. Now I have a Swedish Vallhund puppy, and when he grows up I will think of breeding him, but only if he passes all the health checks with flying colors and does well in the ring.
I'm sorry if you are offended by my message, but please reconsider. Don't breed your girl. If you don't in the end it will be better for you, her, and the puppies.

I really think some people on this site are having a laugh at the moment. No one can be quite such a fool, or can they?

Oh, trust me on this, John. There are a lot of fools about.

Think about it - Shih tzu X Poodle and you get ??? A wum methinks

It's a very popular cross in the states I think
Posts like this almost make me cry!I am protective about all breeds but particularly my breed the shih-tzu,these sweet loving dogs deserve the best caring owners and not owners who are only out to make a quick buck. Leave breeding up to the people who want to better the breed and know what they are actually doing, unlike yourself! We have enough back yard breeders out there who only serve to ruin their particular breed.Breeding should be left to registered breeders who have devoted the most part of their life in learning and caring for their breed and not someone who woke up one morning and thought "oohh i think i might breed my dog today might bring in a few bucks"! For your dogs sake i hope you are a wum! If you knew anything about breeding then you wouldnt be asking such a simple question. If you are serious then go out and learn as much as you can about the breed and then in 5-10 years you may be ready! Please no more mongrels, the shelters are overflowing with them.too many dogs are put down each day because of indicriminate "breeders" and i use that word lightly!
