Hi i wonder if any of you have experienced a thick lime green discharge in your bitches after mating??My bitch is 11 days if in whelp and i know that this would normaly indicate an infection but my breeder has said that sometimes bitches can have a bit of this due to repeat matings and isnt always a bad sign.Obviously i will ring my vet in the morning as being bank holiday they are not there and as she is fine in herself, eating and drinking normally and the discharge has no smell i dont think it an emergency but will ring first thing in the morning.Have any of you experienced this, thanks for any advice or comments.

hi there, ive a bitch in whelp hopefully, she also had a green thick discharge, from day 10 after mating, took her too the vets straight away, the vet done a test, gave her an antibiotic injection and a 5 day course of synulox, the test came bck that she was clear from the worst and that she had an infection,i hope that is the same as megan had, nothing else but it just seems too much of a coincidence for it not to be.Within 3 days it was gone, and now she is 19 days from 1st mating and she has blown her rib cage and her teats are pink and enlarged already, i think this is because this is her 1st litter, and she wont leave me alone. Anyway all dogs are different and take her tomorrow,im sure everything will be ok,post back when you have taken her, fingers crossed. Julia

Thank you Julia, thats put my mind at rest a bit,im glad your girl is ok now.At least worst way my bitch may not have pups if it is an infection although i really hope she does as i have waited for this for ages and just hope its nothing more serious and easy to get cleared up,as i say she is fine in herself but she did have some dark blacky green sloppy poo earlier, sorry to be so graphic but its wasnt diarhea as such lol wondered if she is perhaps absorbing them and its coming out that way,i dont know if thats possible this early though? will let you know what the vet finds tomorrow, thanks again.

i alawys put my bitch on antiboices for 7 to cover the mating, plus a week before the birth and 1 week after to stop any infection,it will not harm te puppies,so ask the vet to give you 3 week supply.

Hi Julia, well i rang the vets today and explained to the nurse about the discharge and also explained that if the vet thought she had an infection would it be posible if i could collect the antibiotics as im so afraid that by taking her to the vets will leave her open to all sorts of diseases(she missed on her last season after taking her to vet to be palpated and so i want to keep all posible reasons for missing this time to a minimum) so she said she would have a word with the vet and get him to ring me back.He did and he said that as she only had the discharge on monday had she had any more and when i said no (i've been checking her constantly poor thing, gets a bit undignified for them just like it does for us lol)he said well if you dont see any more by tomorrow then leave it but if you do then ring back and we can make an appointment for when the surgery will be empty as he would really need to see her before prescribing anything. He also said that they didnt really like to give antibiotics willy nilly especialy to (possibly) pregnant bitches,so i will keep my fingers crossed in the hope that she doesnt have any more.I will let you know how she goes and will keep my fingers crossed that alls well for you and your girl.

Thanks also Briedog for your reply,do you do this antibiotic thing routinely with all your bitches?Have you ever had any misses or reabsorbtion?
