Just to let you all know that there is a disease going around called CBDSS which affects humans, mainly the stupid ones, who for some reason can't manage to go to a dog show without buying anything and I should know as I have it! We were at a show today and I bought Lacey some treats and when we got home I realised that we had enough indoors already but I know the next time I go to a show I will do the same thing and last week I ordered a new lead and collar set for her, bought her a vet-bed and almost went home with a puppy playpen. We've tried not taking money to a show but end up borrowing it from friends or going to a cash point so if anyone knows how to stop me and my pointless buying before we go bankrupt please give me some advice! And also what is the most expensive / most useless item you have bought from a dog show or off the internet for your dog?

I'm glad you mentioned this. This disease is more wide spread that they let on. I'm going to come out of the closet now.
I don't buy things at dog shows, but I sure have spent a lot of money in catalogs and online. But as far as useless things....no, I'm not ready to admit to that.
I'm about to purchase yet another dog bed because my old Lab is having a hard time jumping up on the couch. All the other beds are being used in crates. So, she needs one in the living room and she NEEDS a water proof one which costs I think $89.00. They get stinky and she swims and gets all wet so I thought the water proof one would be just great. Of course I have to get the largest size because when she is gone, Lyric, my doberman will have to fit on it.
Next I want a pooper scooper which looks more fun than a regular shovel. With four dogs, the shovel gets heavy.
Then there's the little "saddle bag" for Lyric to carry on our hikes so we can bring water. And of course the portable water dish that folds flat.
And while I'm at it, I thought I try some of that herbal stuff that prevents brown spots on my beautiful lawn when they pee, since they have unlearned to go behind in the woods. They unlearned it because we have in winter about 4 feet of snow and they can't get to the right place to pee. Plus I'm chicken about cougars then, and I tell them at night to just hurry up and go anywhere. So, there you have it.
I'm sure that's not my total list. There will be some treats and maybe Lyric will be bejewelled with a new collar. I really want one of those double martingale collars.....so attractive on a doberman. I rarely use a collar on my Lab and never on the Chihuahuas. So, Lyric gets all the attention in the collar dept. LOL.
I'm glad you lead the way in coming out. This might turn into "compulsive buying of dog stuff annonymous."

I think this is very similar to a complaint called CBGS - 'compulsive buying at gamefair syndrome'. Anyone who has ever been to the CLA will be aware how contagious it is. It can also last for up to three days at a time without let up.
I am currently preparing myself for the next attack and I can feel it coming on already.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!! Three day bouts of this? Oh dear. Yes, it seems to come in waves and you do get that forboding kind of warning as it's increasing in intensity. LOL LOL LOL. Oh you guys! You're too much. Ha ha ha ha!
