liberty
League Against Cruel Sports, and into most collection pots in town. Yesterday there was an RSPCA collection outside Tesco's, I think they have realised not everyone is happy with them at the moment, so they had a trolley for food donations, it felt better actually buying the dogs something...

I take food to a local rescue where the dogs are ones other rescues can't rehome, due to problems,i.e. don't fit in with kids, have always been kennelled and not socialised. This rescue rehome the dogs after training, with suitable people to avoid the need to pts where possible, but they are always strapped for cash and ask for donations of food or blankets to help.

Our local supermarket has a collection point for dog and cat food. I think this is a brilliant idea as you know it gets to where you want it to go, into animal's tummys rather than a directors pockets.
I wouldn't give to the RSPCA after personal experience.

One very worthwhile charity that does not get enough regular publicity is
The Cinnamon Trust. They also need volunteers. Have a look at their site and see what you think. As pet owners you never know when we also, might need their help.

Main monthly donation is to Cancer Research (remember that more than 1 in 3 of us will need them!!), but also do a £5 direct debit to Collie Rescue for their 'golden oldie' fostering scheme.

I sponsor a dog via Dogs Trust (formerly NCDL) and I also give a monthly payment via GAYE to Independent Weimaraner Rescue & Re-homing Service (IWRRS) :-)

If you have a favourite breed then research on the rescues make sure you support something that uses the money for the cause a lot take large amounts in admin etc.. if its a breed rescue ring a few see what reaction you get on the phone ask for some literature on the work they do.Be wary thou as some are very well off and not a lot gets spent on the dogs, some I know have that many chiefs and not enough Indians that the cheifs argue that much about what should be spent on a poor dog and its too late sometimes.
Apart from rescue I support the salvation Army they are brilliant they helped my family on two occasions the latter being reunting my stepson with his long lost gran (long story) and if you give them a donation they dont always hassle you like the big charities do,at christmas in their literature they send a blank card and ask if you will kindly write a cheery message in it and at christmas they give the cards to homeless or people without families and they never discriminate.
Some charities start with asking for just £3 a month and people think oh thats ok then they harrass you to death for more all the time.
My Mother in Law nearly made herself ill with them ringing her up all the time.
Also remember that not all charities are registered but that doesnt mean they arent doing good work it just may mean they dont have a committee or prefer to keep small s that way can have flexibility to do what they think is right without the red tape of having to vote on everything.
