Have just completed the tests.
Jasper scored a fairly okay 16
Tammy scored a rather high 24
Is there anyone else who has tested both dog and bitch and found that the bitch has performed higher?
I always knew women were better than men and my dogs have just proved the point :)
I think the test with the commands is a bit unfair. What if your testing a young pup?
The chair one is not going to be done my house again after what my Jas did. He just stepped backwards and ran full pelt into them to seperate them and then get at the treat :) I suppose you could say he used his head not quite in the way they were expecting though ;)
We had GREAT FUN doing them and my kids joined in aswell. They thouhgt it was great when they hid the treats and then had to hide more.
Jas is obvously a left brain lateral thinker who solves problems in one genius leap :D Think this is a great way of giving people fun activities to do with their dogs. Our latest one is pinched from Jean Donaldsons Culture Clash called Dissecting - cut sausage into slices, use old bandage and tie each slice into a little pocket on the bandage till you have a string of sausage bits, hide the string and release dog :D Just make sure you get kids/sleepy OH and anything fragile out the way of the headlong rush.
Bess scored 18. :) I agree the command one wasn't a true reflection of the dogs intelligence. What about the super brainy dogs who just haven't been taught many commands? They are going to come out of it looking a bit thick! :(
Bess didn't score well on the one where you hide a toy under the tin but it was because she wasn't really interested in it. They said she "doesn't understand the idea that an object exists when it isn't perceived" Rubbish! How come she knew exactly where the food treat was when she saw me hiding that on the hide and seek test. She rushed straight to it before she searched for the others!:D She couldn't manage to pull the string on that test though, she just tried to get at the treat with her paws.
It was really good fun though, Bess loved doing it. :)
Here if anyone wants to have a go....

Morgan (male, Cocker Spaniel) scored 20. Didn't have a clue how to get the treat tied to the shoelace out from under the settee. not bad on the rest :-)

Bramble got 28 and Tara 22 - so my dog did better than my bitch :)

Penny got 22
Lucy got 20
Tamino got 18
So over here the girls did better, but then again Tamino is only ten weeks old. But Tamino had no trouble learning how to pull the treat with the shoelace while Penny used brute force to overturn the armchair and Lucy just sat there looking at the lace.
Great fun though. :)

This morning I tried them with pet TV. No interest at all. Tammy got up, yawned, stretched and walked out of the room and Jas fell asleep. Tammy normally loves to chase cats (playfully) and when they came on she didn't even prick her ears. Jasper kinda opened one eye when the dogs were barking but other than that not interested at all.
What does that mean about my dogs?
Never mind all good fun and I don't care if my dogs are a bit on the dull side they still give me plenty of joy.
Got to try the sausage one later.
Might try the tests on my mother-in-laws border collie today. In-laws gone on holiday again to Malta for 2 weeks so we are looking after the animals on the farm. Great fun 3 sheep, 25 chickens, 1 dog and a cat about to have kittens and ankle deep in mud :) what better way to spend a bank holiday.

Did anyone get 30?? or is my dog just a genius? :d
I tested my 2 weimaraners last night. My dog scored 24 and my bitch scored 26. :-) Does anyone know what the highest is you can score ?
I was quite pleased with our results anyway. I think the problem with my dog is he is soooooo food orientated that he sometimes forgets what he needs to do in order to get the treat but then if I use a toy he aint interested
Just done the test, Toby scored 24 :)
Heidi
lily got 20, which is quite good considering she was quite sleepy at the time. we had to re-do the chair test thing because she stuck her paw between the chairs and immediately fished it out on the first go !
