We have a 10mth old Lab dog who is fantastically behaved, if a little energetic!!! Ideally we would love a second lab, but are unsure the best way to go about this. Do we get another pup or potentially look at a rescue dog - we know of one locally that needs rehoming.
Any advice would be much appreciated
I would wait until your pups a bit older - 18months at least. This way he's gone through the 'Kevin the teenager' stage. If you have another too soon it will make it a lot more difficult to train them both as they will want to play with each other, and ignore you ;)
Then why not go back to the breeder of your first pup and ask if they can recommend someone?

I have always opposed the idea of a second dog until the 1st reached an older age and it is always the sensible option, but having our second dog whilst our first was 11months old i haven't come across any problems and they both listen to me succesfully. But i do agree with the 'Kevin' stage being terrible and there is no way i could have took on a puppy once our 1st hit 9months it would have been madness.

Hi I would agree to wait until at least 18/24 months old and that your pup has matured enough.I am at the opposite end now as I am hopefully getting my new pup in july.My dog is 5 years old and I think time is right to add a new addition to our family whilst my dog is still young enough to run around and have fun with a puppy..
