just wanted some advice - got a boxer champ show tommorrow with my puppy its her first show and mine handling boxers do i get someone with boxer experience to handle her or try to do it myself?

It's way too late to get her used to someone else handling her - she would need to be trained to respond to the handler! So you should have a go yourself! I'm sure you've seen how all the othres do it - just get in there and do your best! And most of all - relax and enjoy it! Good luck!

Hi,
I'd say definately have a go yourself. Make sure you have plenty of cheese or liver or whatever she likes and also something squeaky usually works well to get my girls attention. The babies never behave perfectly so just treat it as a practice and if you get anywhere it's a bonus!

Give it a go yourself it is so satisfying
Mind you I handled a boxer puppy for a friend & beat her ;) & I free stood him :D Funny she never asked to handle again if she had two in the same class LOL
The best places to learn handling is ringcraft, with someone that is experienced in handling
and an extra bonus handling the breed, in this case Boxers.
Have you got a local Boxer club that has matches/handling classes near you?
As this is where you can pick up some tips and learn to work as a team.
I also found that the exemption (now called companion) shows are a good learning ground
and also for making your mistakes and getting used to showing without all the extra pressures of the open
or champ shows...
Best of luck at the Tyne Wear and Tees Boxer club Ch show!!
If I was going I would have been able to show you a few tips!
Best thing if you aren't in the minor puppy class, is to watch that class and then have a quick practice
before your class. If you are in the minor puppy class, don't go at the front of the class, stand somewhere
in the middle, that way you can watch what the judge is doing before it's your turn to have your dogs judged.
Also being able to watch how others are handling their dogs.
Normally you will get your ring number from your bench at Champ shows. Some clubs if unbenched will have
ring numbers either clipped in the catalogue or available for collection in the ring. Check which system they
are using.
The best advice I can give is take a deep breath and try to enjoy it and make it an enjoyable experience
for the pup..
Best Of Luck and maybe get to see you at another Boxer show one day!

what ringcraft classes do you attend,i go to two that have a lot of people that deal with boxers that would be able to give you advice, go and have fun on the day and don't expect a puppy to be brilliant on the day it is a bonus when they are .

give it a go...just relax and both of you have fun..thats all that matters. A placing is a bonus...I always go expecting to be thrown out...then I'm never dissapointed.
Let us know how you get on
GOOD LUCK
