My bichon frise bitch keeps on knawing and licking at her back end.  She only seems to do this when she is in season.  She's got her tail practically bald with all the chewing. She has also started biting her front feet aswell. We took a litter off her when she was three and before then she was fine.  She is now five and hasn't stopped knawing herself every season.  Something is really irritating her.  We don't really want to get her spayed and the vet has prescribed piriton and evening primrose oil.  She also on homeopathic remedies for itchy skin.  This doesn't seem to help in any way at all if anyone has any information or suggestions on what we could do i'd be much abliged.

Thanks

Claire

If she's already had a litter, and you don't intend to have another from her, what's stopping you getting her spayed?  If this only happens during her seasons, common sense would indicate it's got something to do with them, and stopping her seasons would stop the problem.......

I would agree that you should give some thought to having her spayed, as you have tried other things without success. Alternatively ask your vet about suppressing her season chemically.
