Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / just got a PRT need advice please
- By mrs trellis [gb] Date 29.04.04 17:06 UTC
I put a post in earlier and no-one has replied i feel a bit rejected! We have bought an older PRTat the beginning of april but have a wedding to go to and will be away for two nights; given that she is just settling down into her new home- should we get a friend to stay in our house to look after her, take her to a kennel or to stay with mother-in-law (who has an elderly bichon) I am really worried she will be distressed, if taken away again and may think she has been rejected. She is settling in nicely and plays happily, although she still has separation anxiety and cries if we go out. ( She is not left often as husband works from home) I am really hoping to get a reply this time, as I feel sure someone can advise!

I'd get a housesitter to come stay at your home with her. That way she can remain in her new home which she has become comfortable with and be taken care of.

What on earth is a PRT? I wish people would spell out these breeds. How is everyone to know every breed????? I know GSD German Shepherd Dog because I see it sooooo much and have had GSDs but all the others???NO.

I'm going to guess....Parson Russel Terrier??? Hey, this could be fun. LOL
- By Anwen [gb] Date 29.04.04 17:15 UTC
Carrie - Parson Russell Terrier.
I would get someone to stay at your house to look after her as it's only a couple of nights & she hasn't yet settled in.

Hey, I got it right. Just got the spelling wrong.

Yes, I think a house sitter that you can trust is the ultimate.
- By jessthepest [gb] Date 29.04.04 21:46 UTC
Carrie - I never know what they are all referring to either!  I sussed this out before I read it because I had worked out JRT.  Other than that I know GSD and EBT and that's it! :-D
- By Carrie [us] Date 30.04.04 01:26 UTC
LOL LOL. I'm really chuckling now.

Ok, guess what I'm referring to.

DP
Chi
LR
RR
GP
GS
MS
SP
MP
TP
TCP

LOL LOL LOL You'll never guess 'em all! (In fact, if I don't write them down, by tomorrow when you're having your coffee and I'm knocked out (not knocked up) sleeping, I'll most likely forget them too)

Well the first two are easy because they are what you have - Doberman Pinscher (sp?) and Chi-whotsit - can't even attempt to spell that one - the little things you can put in your handbag - chiuaua, chiuwawa, argh can't spell it!

LR must be labrador retriever.  GS i guess is a Gordon Setter - but the rest I'm not even going to attempt!

RR is Rhodesian Ridgeback, and I would think MP (not Member of Parliament! ;) ) is a Miniature Pinscher (called a MinPin over here).

Apart from that, I can spot Multiple Sclerosis and an excellent antiseptic (TCP)!
:D

Thank you all very much, we are going on the friday pm and coming back on the sunday, fortunately my sister (who loves dogs has come up trumps) and the breeder I bought her from has also replied. I was so worried as to what would be the right thing to do! And yes she is a parson russell terrier - a long legged tufty job, she plays tug with my friends rottweiler, very funny to watch, the rottweiler could swing her right round if she wanted to, but doesn,t because she is being gentle, they chase round and round the park,

OH, good. I'm glad you have your weekend all figured out. Have fun at the wedding and don't worry too much. Your little dog sounds pretty cute to wrestle with the Rott.

Ok, here's what I had in mind. But it could be different breeds instead, as some of you showed.

DP  Doberman Pinscher
Chi Chihuahua
LR  Labrador Retriever
RR  Rhodesian Ridgeback
GS  Giant Schnauzer
GP  Great Pyreneese
MS  Miniature Schnauzer
SP  Standard Poodle
MP  Miniature Poodle
TP  Toy Poodle
TCP Tea Cup Poodle

Those aren't any "official" or widely used abbreviations that I know of. I just made 'em up for the heck of it. Hee hee multiple sclerosis. Yes. Sorry to highjack your thread Mrs. T.

Ah, the reason we didn't know two of them is because they're not known by those names here! Your 'Great Pyrenees' is a 'Pyrenean Mountain Dog' over here, and as for Tea Cup Poodles - we don't have them at all!
- By elija [us] Date 30.04.04 14:46 UTC
why don't you have tea cup poodles?  they are the smallest ones.  that is strange you don't have them at all.....not in any dog shows?  don't you have that CRUPS show?
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 30.04.04 14:51 UTC
Tea Cup poodles are not recognised in this country and are just seen as breeders cashing in mating undersized poodles and yes we do have Crufts the biggest dog show in the world ;)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.04.04 15:03 UTC
I'm afraid over here those tiny poodles are considered to be runts. They certainly aren't recognised as a breed.
- By Carrie [us] Date 30.04.04 15:35 UTC
I'm not sure if they are here either. And yes, Crufts is the most esteemed and large dog show in the world....very prestigious.

Some people too, mistakenly say to me things like tea cup Chihuahua. Chihuahuas are not classified by size. There is one size....Chihuahua. (They may vary in size somewhat but no classification difference) LOL

Elijah,

Tea cup poodles are not a separate breed.  If you check the AKC website there are only three recognized varieties: Toy, Miniature and Standard.  Same as in the U.K.

Yes, that's right....no "tea cup" poodle. I think that's just what people call extra small toy poodles. LOL.

thank you for your kind message. gyp was good for my sister all weekend and ran about like a mad thing when we returned. she has now made friends with two SCWT soft coated wheaten terriers and a boxer. sorry this has now appeared as a new thread? am not repeating myself just trying to answer someones message. thank you

GP - German Pointer ?
Did you mean to say
GSP - German Shorthaired Pointer
GWP - German Wirehaired Pointer
GLP - German Longhaired Pointer...

No such thing as a German Pointer... not that I know of anyway.
But confusing these letters anyway...
