Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / is she a back yard breeder?

Hi
As some of you may remember i have a springer spaniel called holly who had been a bit poorly but thankfully she is now ok.When we were looking to get her we went through a breed club and found a very nice and helpful breeder and saw both the sire and the dam all the paperwork ect and have a lovely little pup and my friend has one of the bitches from the same litter.Last week on our walk we met up with another lady who has a springer and got talking about where our pups came from. She looked on the kennel club web site and got a name from there and thought as they were registered with them everything was ok.She also saw the dam but not with the pups (5wks old when she first saw them)we have got quite friendly since then as our kids go to the same school and today she showed me the owner registration certificate and unlike mine there is nothing under health screening for either the dam or sire also she was not shown any health test paperwork like i was.Is there anyway we can find out about the sire or dam as there doesn't appear to be any affix to either of there names and the pup is registered as Kenmilfore which i think means the breeder has no affix. We are a bit concerend as she paid £375 for her pup and it doesn't look like she has any health guarantees
Any advice would be appreciated i did see a similar post on visitors board when i did a search and it looks like it may be a back yard breeder but we would like to find out for sure thanks
tam

The breeder of the puppy should show you the health certificate checks. If she didn't you could still ask, she might just have thought your friend would not be interested.
If she didn't get any health checks done, was she aware this must be done? Some pet owners want to have a litter from their dog, if their vet or the stud dog owner do not advise them to get health tests done then they often don't do it. There is a world of difference between the person breeding from their pet to somebody breeding from a bitch for the money to be gained.
It might not be a case of a "back yard breeder" but of a pet owner breeding a litter to keep a puppy from.
If any of the grandparents or parents are tested under the BVA schemes their results are recorded at the Kennel club anyway.
