Hi! my Goldie is nine months old and I am taking her to her second show, I was told at the last show by a Goldie lady that I should thin the neck hair down from under the ears to show off the length of neck, how close or how short do I have to trim and is it just the side and under the chin or what. confused! It is not a breed show.
Hi, I am no expert, but when 'thinning' the hair you don't cut it with normal scissors, but with special thinning scissors - these thin the hair out but without it looking cut. Better still is just to strip some hair with your hands. However, I know nothing about goldies, but have had the same thing recommended to me with my briard, for the same reason. Someone with more experience should be along soon, but don't do any cutting just yet!

Would the breeder of your girl be able to help?
Fiona is right, straight scissors are used to shape the tail, feet, and ears, and then thinning scissors to neaten hocks, and front.
It is difficult to explain without being able to demonstrate at the same time, but you are welcome to email me, and perhaps arrange a phone call!
