Topic Dog Boards / General / What toys for lab puppy? (gundog to be!)

Hi, I'm so excited!  I'm off to choose my lab bitch on Saturday and can't wait.  I'll then be taking her home in a couple of weeks and would like to buy some items for her in preparation, she'll be 8 weeks old.  What type of toys would you recommend for her?  She is from very good field trial lines, and therefore I intend to carry this on and work her in working tests/field trials etc.  For this reason I don't believe squeaky toys are a good idea, I believe they encourage hard mouths etc.?
I would be grateful for any advice, thanks, Jo.

As a young puppy Anna had a couple of rings and a ball. No squeakies of course. Early retrieve training was a stuffed sock which was never left around when I was not training. I never use a puppy size dummy, I find that by the time I need something larger than a stuffed sock the puppy is ready for a full size dummy. I find puppy dummies are too easy for a dog to pick up by the ends rather than properly in the middle.

Best wishes, John
