Male Basset Hounds are called Fred after the cartoon in the Mail paper, and Bessie basset seems to be for female bassets.
I have named my basset Dexter.

Scotties and Westies are always called Jock! :-D  Or Hamish, or Mac, or Donald, or Angus!!

We thought up as many Scottish names as we could for our Scottie, then ended up getting a bitch and couldn't think of a single Scottish female name, other than Nessie!!!  I threatened to call her Noo Noo - for och aye the Noo, but unfortunately it stuck and we referred to her as that for the rest of the evening (this was two days before we went to visit) and I said we'd better pick a real name quick before we get used to this or she will be Noo Noo for the rest of her life, and so she became Millie, but Millie Noo Noo for short ;-).  We do still call her Noo Noo a lot though.  Anyway, another Scottie at puppy school is called Bonnie, which is a good idea, Bonnie Scotland and all that.  But I think everybody just gets boys all the time so they can call them Jock.  :-D

One of my nans neighbours have a scottie called   Scott.  I think they put alot of thought into that one.
Im in the process of looking for a cat,  Ille probably call it Dave or Dereck, my daughter wants to call it Norman.  Joe will be pleased.
- By jessthepest [gb] Date 28.04.04 10:38 UTC
Oh yes, I forgot that!  I belong to a Spanish Scottish Terrier site on MSN and the owner's Scottie is called...Scottie!  But he's excused, he's Spanish, to him that's an exotic name :-D
- By jessthepest [gb] Date 28.04.04 10:39 UTC
If I ever have a cat, I shall be calling it 'Cat'.  As in Holly Golightly's name for her cat in Breakfast at Tiffany's.  I think its the purrrrr-fect name ;-)
- By inca [gb] Date 28.04.04 10:53 UTC
it might get a complex if you call it norman as in norman no friends LOL My mum once had a cat called Tigger i think she spent ages choosing a name LOL
- By Boxacrazy [gb] Date 28.04.04 12:06 UTC
Hi Emma,
I named one of my Boxer pups Norman :D

My cats are called Saffron (or Saffy - she's a dark tortie) and Clyde (black and white)they are semi-long haired.
I also have at my Nan's Bandit (he's a semi-long grey and white) and Tiffany (or Tiffy) which is my Nan's cat.

We've also owned, Lucky, Beauty, Smokey, and my mum had a cat called Pudding and she had
kittens and they kept one called Cornflake....no accounting for taste :D

When I had a cat I called her POOD, cause she was a poodie cat!!!!! How sad, but I was young.  I also called my rabbit Starsky, I'm sure you can work out why. :D

As Melody said in her post, the northern breeds have very inuit names,  Nanuk (Samoyed) was named after the word polar bear in Inuit (I thought she looked like one as a pup!).  Tundra's name is another popular name for a Malamute.

We met a family in Pets at Home who told us their Scottie is called Dundee.  I understand their line of thinking but can't help but feel they must sound very odd calling him over the park...
- By Lily Munster [gb] Date 28.04.04 18:39 UTC
Not as bad as my sister when she bought her Springer, she wanted to call him Rambo....the film was very popular at the time but I said "No way am I shouting that in the park"!!!!!!!!

Popular names for Munsters?...Max seems to be a favourite and a few Hermans.  Millies & Molly/Mollies ocassionally.
- By jackyjat [gb] Date 28.04.04 19:40 UTC
Some friends of ours have a cat called 'Seefer' as in 'C' fer cat!!

I quite fancy a 'Deefer' as in D fer dog!

We used to have a cat (1980's) called Rambo but shortened to 'Bo.
- By lucyandmeg [gb] Date 28.04.04 20:19 UTC

- By Charlie [gb] Date 28.04.04 20:52 UTC
I have been told many times that I look like a King Charles cos i've got big eyes and curly hair (like ears) so I think Charlie is a very appropriate name for them!
- By tracey [gb] Date 28.04.04 21:25 UTC

Bradley used to come to 'Oh dear god what have you done this time'. Or 'what on earth'.  He used to be there in a flash and sat down with his chest puffed out looking very very proud of my duvet and pillows that he had eaten and spread all around the bathroom. Ah bless! Miss him.
- By inca [gb] Date 29.04.04 10:56 UTC
