Everytime I let my dog into the garden to go to the loo, he ends up eating leaves, grass, twigs anything he can fit into his mouth. Naturally, I am worried about him eating such items incase he harms himself. I keep an eye on him to call him back into the house when he has finished but he always manages to grab onto something or other to eat. I am truely at my wits end with this - any ideas what I can do??
Thanks

Let me guess, It's a Labrador?
Seriously, that is something dogs do! They are not doing wrong, just what they want. No dog would entertain the idea of planting anything and by the same token they have no comprehension of ownership. If they want something they pick it up. If they then decide it does not taste good they put it down again. thats a dog's life.
Best wishes, John
Could equally be a Dobermann, John :)
Hi Guest
Check your garden plants and trees to make sure there is nothing poisonous - I think Laburnum and Yew are the main poisonous trees although there may well be others. There are many plants that have poisonous plants and it is difficult to avoid them all (such as Daff bulbs but none of mine have ever eaten these - so far).
How old is your dog - it is very normal for pups to explore their mouths. Why not register so you can tell us more about your dog?
I should have said - explore "with" their mouths
Or a Scottish Terrier! :-D
"Breakfast? No ta, I'm off to the garden to fill up on grass and plants and leaves and anything green that I can find and when I've had enough of that, maybe I'll consider coming back in for some of that boring, brown dry stuff you keep giving me...."
And I thought it was just me that has a dog that thinks he's a cow!
