Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Dalmatian - family dog?

Hello all,
I have two young girls and ever since watching the dalmatian films, they wanted their very own.
I did say that when we moved to the country, we would look into the dalmatian.
Well we have moved and have lots of land!

I just dont know if one will be a good family dog, the girls are 6.
We would get a bitch, as we were thinking a bitch would be better with our girls?
Exercise is not an issue, im home most of the day, so a good 2 hours a day would be given.
The dog would have to tolorate people coming into the house, and be willing to accept other dogs.
Also being OK to train would be a bonus!

Does a dalmatian fit any of the above!?

Any help would be great!
I dont get have an email address sorry, taking us a while to get online and sorted!

Thanking anyone who lends a hand!!

Hi,
I personally think dalmatians are great family dogs! If you're terribly houseproud (or like to wear black!), don't get one, because you will permanently be covered in short white hair that is impossible to remove. This is worth reading, to give you an insight into the breed. Other pages on that site will also be useful to you, and if you do decide to go ahead, make sure any puppy you buy has been BAER tested and has a certificate guaranteeing its hearing status. Hope this helps!
