I have a 3yr. old female short haired dach. She is house trained. Indoors is where she spends most of her time. We moved into a new home in July and are expecting our first child any day. My question or concern is she will go pee in her own bed and stay in it. I have never seen a dog that does this. She spent the last two yrs sleeping in a crate in our laundry room. The crate was not locked so she had run of the room. She had a blanket in the crate that she would get all bundled in. I thought maybe she couldn't get untangled and that is why she peed in there. So I got her a new bed, a big puffy pillow type bed (no blankets) but still she will pee in it. We have our biggest problem with her when it is cold or raining/snowing. She will not go to the bathroom, she just sits outside by the door all pitiful. So I think her body can't hold any more because she won't go and then if she goes in the house she gets in trouble. There has been several times when the weather was nice that she had been outside all day and would come in side and will pee. It's in random spots never in the same one. There have been occassions where she went on the couch or chair. Weeks or months will go by with no problems and then it will start again. We have never had a problem with her pooping only peeing. I was beginning to think she was smart enough to do it in her bed, because I wouldn't check it so she wouldn't get in trouble like she does for peeing in the floor. I am at my wits end with this problem. Is she stubborn, is there a medical problem? With a new baby coming I can't be dealing with this problem. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Hiya guest.
I have a mini smooth bitch who, doesn't wee in her bed, but like yours is very reluctant to go out in the bad weather. She too will stand at the back door, or under the bench, outside, looking pitiful.
Have you had her to the vets to make sure there is nothing medically wrong? If not, it might be a good idea to do so.
Otherwise i suggest taking her out on a lead for a walk, to do what's needed to be done and not coming back in til she's done it. She will soon get the message.
