My dad has been waiting for a collie pup, but the breeder says he is not sure his female is pregnant. He has only bred chihuahuas in the past, and this would be his first Collie litter, so he is not sure....
He says his girl is 6 weeks pregnant, but her tummy is not enlarging much yet, so he believes she's only having a phantom (she has other signs too: she's loosing her abdominal hair, and her mammary glands and teats are huge)....
But I told my vets about this and they say Collies don't start showing until they are 6-7 weeks pregnant. Is this true?
My breed is completely different, but my girls usually start showing at 5 weeks!!!!

Hi
We have mated our Collie three times now, the first she started showing around 5 weeks and got massive (this resulted in 8 pups), the second time she only started enlarging around 6 weeks, (only a little) she was also shedding fur and had enlarged teats, by nine weeks she was dripping milk but this resulted as a phantom pregnancy the last time she stated getting bigger at 4 weeks again got massive and this has recently resulted in 9 pups. We did believe she was expecting the second time due to her behaviour and obvious signs but thought may be only one pup, it took a scan to prove it was a phantom which we had done when she was overdue. Hope this helps .
